Lagniappe
The word brilé is included in the following traditional Creole song: Sot krapo tô ké va brilé. Prenn kouraj. Li va répousé. / Jump frog, your tail will burn. Take courage, it will grow again. In Louisiana Creole culture, there are traditional folk songs in French, Spanish, and Kouri-Vini. A few of these songs were written and recorded. Other songs were simply told orally from generation to generation. Oral storytelling is another Louisiana Creole tradition. Many of these oral stories came to Louisiana by way of enslaved people from Africa. Have you ever heard the stories of Kompær Lapin and Kompær Bouki? The smart Lapin and his gullible friend Bouki will certainly make you laugh. Be sure to learn a few of these folktales, in Kouri-Vini of course. See More Resources to find out where to read them.
