Phonemic Segmentation Lesson Plan
Class: EDEL 2140 Teaching Literacy in The Elementary
Semester: Fall 2021
Rationale: In this lesson plan, I utilized formative assessments when evaluating the student's progress and growth; one form of assessment was through observation and the other by the completion of their assignment. It is vital for students to be able to distinguish different sounds within a word and for me to identify where the student is at linguistically. This may be critical in the student's development. Teacher observation is needed in order to determine how to move forward in helping the learner make progress. This lesson challenges the learners to roll a die and find a word that had the same number of phonemes as the number on the die.
Research Journal 2: Common Cultures
Class: EDFD 2020 Foundations of Education
Semester: Spring 2021
Rationale: The Common Cultures Research Journal led me to understand how to be mindful of student backgrounds and ways that differences can be embraced in the classroom environment. It elucidated how the student’s backgrounds should not determine the level of expectations a teacher sets for them. From this assignment, I learned that incorporating student backgrounds into classroom instruction benefits the student's social/emotional skills and creates a sense of self-efficacy.
