Title: Self-Portrait
Medium: Oil Painting on Canvas
Size: 18”x24”
The subject of this self-portrait focuses on some of the strong emotions I have experienced while growing up. Surrounded by a pressurizing environment, I often found myself reflecting, and at a loss, I slowly realized that this feeling I am experiencing is a way of me telling myself that I have given up and have been brainwashed by the elements in the environment around me. In a sense, I sometimes felt like I didn’t have a mind of my own. No anger, no frustration but simply tranquilized, just like the head focusing its gaze on the red star above the other head. I wanted to display that sense of deadly calmness within this self-portrait, as my feels are reflected in both of the individuals depicted in the piece.
