When designing this piece of work, the first idea that came to me was the feeling of safety. How do people get a sense of security? My design then took off from there. The collar of the clothing is designed in the form of a turtleneck, wrapping around the neck providing a sense of safety, and acting almost like a shield for people. The fabric mimics the material for winter jackets, allowing people to stay warm. The sleeves resemble designs from traditional kimonos, allowing me to unify different cultures by combining traditional designs with my own ideas. As for the color, I selected midnight blue as I want the piece to resemble the night sky. The night sky has always been mysterious for me yet, it provides me peace and comfort so I wish whoever ends up wearing this piece of the garment would feel the same way, warm, soothing and secure.
