SFUSD Science Department

Sixth Grade Science

The focus in 6th grade science is for students to become comfortable and confident using the scientific practices while learning about a variety of systems from the way the cells in their body impact their health to how humans impact the health of Earth’s systems. Students will be using the following practices throughout the year to collect data, make observations, and complete culminating projects.

In addition, the students will also participate in a yearlong marine science unit in partnership with the Marine Mammal Center called Ocean Ambassadors. Students also learn and work in the school garden every other week.

Generally, science homework is for students to complete work they didn’t finish in class or to work on projects at the end of units. Sometimes this means you will have no science homework for several weeks but then a more significant amount for a week or two.
