All About Ms. Schwatz

Bio

Hello, my name is Ms. Schwartz.  This is my fifth year at Denman.  I will be teaching 6th Grade Humanities.  I previously taught at the elementary school level for four years.  However, I am very excited to begin working with older students!  I have worn many hats when working with children: coach, mentor, advisor, teacher and friend.  My energetic spirit working with children transfers into the classroom further.  A little about me: I was born and raised in San Francisco, once a student of SFUSD.  I grew up and still live in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco.  I attended the University of San Francisco where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and after that my Master’s Degree in Teaching.  I most recently earned my second Master’s in School Administration at San Francisco State University.

Teaching Philosophy

My educational philosophy is that each student is unique and has something special they can bring to the classroom.  This uniqueness is respected and valued.  My role as the teacher is to assist students in expressing themselves and accept themselves for who they are, while also embracing the differences of others.  This is accomplished by establishing a safe and caring classroom community where students can speak their minds, blossom and grow.  A quote I hold important to myself and my students is, “What we know matters, but who we are matters more.” -Brené Brown

Interests

I am a very active and social person.  I love being around others, socializing with friends and family.  I am very dedicated to my physical health and enjoy going to the gym. Some other activities I enjoy are snowboarding, biking, hiking, and dancing.  I also love to travel, near and far!  In the winter, I frequently go to Tahoe for the snow season.  I hope to eventually make it to Europe in the near future.  Something I look forward to each month are my book club meetings with my friends.  We read all sorts of genres that make us laugh and cry.  What book have you read recently?
