Parents and children could be running out of ideas to bond due to the months-long quarantine. One good area in the house to develop strong relationships is the kitchen. Making homemade soda can be a family’s new way to bond as seasons change.
Dessert chef Javier Burillo shares his healthy homemade raspberry ginger soda recipe to his readers as a way to welcome the new season. The process of making one’s own soda is simple and enjoyable. Ingredients include ½ to ¾ cup of water, ½ cup frozen raspberries, ½ cup split and sliced vanilla bean, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon chopped candied ginger.
Begin the process by mixing the ingredients in heavy saucepan. With everything poured into the saucepan, proceed by bringing the combination into a boil. Reduce the heat once it reaches boiling point, then allow it to simmer until the mix decreases to half. While adding flavoring to natural desserts is discouraged by some, add only a dash to please the taste buds. Pour the syrup into a squeeze bottle or any kind of bottle that can be stored in the fridge. Top off a glass of club soda or water seltzer with ice before adding the syrup.
One of the best parts of making homemade soda is having total control over the ingredients that make it into the mix, says dessert chef Javier Burillo. Homemade sodas provide individuals the chance to experiment and be creative with the whole process, making it a perfect way for loved ones to bond.
