These rules are for the downtime requests of the Jade Throne LRP. They have been designed to allow players to make non-event requests that can help further plotlines or aid in the creation of new skills or rules.
Any requests received at a Jade Throne event that are outside the scope of the contained event itself will be marked as “Downtime Activity” and placed to one side to be processed between the Even and Odd numbered events. These activities will be considered in addition to the other requests if a minimum number of Resources has been spent on the activity.
Each clan will have 6 downtime activities allotted to them, with 3 allotted to each of the topics below:
To further a plot line in some way, such as through investigating an area or monster.
To develop clan members’ individual skills, such as through creating a new spell, duelling style, concoction etc.
These do not have to have an individual player perform them as the characters may have a vast network of vassals, peasants or other networks which they oversee. However, each activity does need a player's OC name associated to it, so the Game Team know who to give the responses to.
The responses from the downtime activity may be given back in a multitude of different forms such as:
A written response OC
A written response IC
A newly designed spell / alchemy item / crafted item
An encounter added to either of the proceeding events
A power card
Etc
It is also important to note that response may not be given at the first event of the year but may be held until the second event. This can be for many reasons such as, the player who has made the request is unable to attend an event, the Game Team need more time to create the response requested, thematically the response fits better at one event or another.
A deadline will be announced for the completion date of downtime activities on both the Discord and the Facebook groups.
Players should discuss amongst their Clans what activities people wish to do and 1 player should be nominated as the central point for completing the Downtime Request Form. That player should email the Game Team, then a link will be provided to them for the Downtime Request Form. That player then has until the deadline to submit the form with as much detail as they can for the maximum of 6 requests the Clan has.
When completing the form, you should mention as much relevant information as possible, such as:
Any skills that may be relevant
Any IC roleplay that has occurred at an event that may be relevant
Any items that may be relevant
Etc
While we appreciate that the decisions are ultimately with the players for what they would like to investigate during their downtime, we have had a request for more guidance in some areas that are expansive within the system.
A player wishes to create a new spell for the system which will KNOCKDOWN and BIND a target. They have both separate Basic spells so list this as relevant skills. They have also spoken to a Kami of Earth who they have made an agreement with to assist them so list this as relevant roleplay. They do not have an item that they feel is relevant to the request.
The Game Team review the request and discuss together. They determine that during the roleplay with the Kami and that the player has always called themselves a Master of Earth magic that the new spell is approved and that it will be an Advanced Spell.
The player receives an OC response in the Clan Cache box at the next event that explains that they have been successful in creating the new advanced spell known as “Quagmire” which will KNOCKDOWN a target and BIND them in places they also need to add the line to the spell vocals that the effect lasts for 30 Seconds.
A player wishes to investigate a lead on some smugglers they encountered at the pervious event. They want to setup a meeting with the leader of the smuggler’s so they can get them to provide more Alchemy resources.
They list that they have Calligraphy at skill level 3 and that they are a Sasori courtier as relevant skills.
The describe the encounter with the smuggler’s at the previous event as well as allowing one of them to escape alive to go back to the Smuggler’s Den. The also include a letter that they are sending to the Smuggler’s Den seeing as they had it explained to them during the encounter.
The Game Team review the request and discuss together. They determine that the smuggler that the player let go made it back alive and reported that they had survived due to the actions of a Sasori samurai. Then a letter appears explaining that a meeting is required. The team determine that they will include an encounter at either the next event or the event afterwards.
The player is unable to make the next event but can make the event afterwards. The Game Team place an IC response in the Clan cache box for the player which has instructions for a day and a time that the smugglers will meet them. There is also an additional Fleeting Influence in the letter for the player to use.
A player wishes to learn more about Maho magic but has been informed other players at an event that such knowledge is dishonourable to know. They decide to go ahead and have the backing of their player clan mates to submit a request.
They start their investigation returning to the Tsuru lands and speaking to the peasants and vassals at this location and then wish to move to the Hinatori lands where they will speak to the peasants and investigate the destroyed mountain path.
The Game Team review the request and discuss together. They determine that the players investigations seem to go no where so a note is returned to the player at the first event sadly pointing out that due to the lack of skill usage the character ultimately finds nothing.
However, during the event a mysterious figure approaches the player and says that he has heard of a wondering samurai who has been asking questions about the Maho users at previous events and that if they wish to know more, they should follow him.
