The Jade Throne is a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game set in Tokoro: a wholly fictional, fantasy game setting inspired by the societies of ancient feudal Japan and China, and by the heroes and legends of ancient Greece. Players take the role of samurai living within a rigid and intricate social structure of courtly games, family feuds, glorious deeds, and powerful beings. The rules of this game are heavily inspired by Legend of the Five Rings, but knowledge of that game is not necessary to attend Jade Throne.
The game is designed for a mature audience, and as such you must be 18+ to attend.
Game content may include, but is not limited to:
Personal and general horror elements
Individual fears / phobias
Pyrotechnics and effects
There will be no sexual violence as a theme in this game; please do not include this as part of your background.
Whilst combat is a part of the game, it is entirely possible to play a completely non-combatant character; the game is held in a court setting, and there are areas of the site where combat is not permitted for in character reasons.
We ask players to be creative and respectful in their costuming and kit choices, and to understand that others are doing the same. We operate an aspirational costume/kit standard - this means we are happy for everyone to try as hard as they can, and to build up kit over time. Where possible, no trainers or clearly modern clothing should be worn, however if there are medical reasons for the presence of these items, they are permitted; it is important to the game team that participants feel able to enjoy the game to the best of their abilities.
Roleplay over rules where possible - This ruleset is designed to foster roleplay, not hinder it. The game team wants to support roleplay, and playing within the setting and world will be rewarded.
If you wish to try something which is not currently covered by the written rules, there are ways to achieve this such as: levelling a skill to rank 3 or above to customise what it does, performing freeform magic ceremonies, creating new spells and masteries, making magic items or equipment, and so on.
Do not be afraid to experiment – this is an evolving rulebook.
