Character Creation
Schools : Clans : Flaws : Backgrounds
There are a few steps to go through to create a character at Jade Throne. The most important thing is to work out how you want to roleplay your character - what type of samurai you want to be and what clan you want to join. Next is what abilities (advantages and skills) your character has. You can follow these simple steps to create a character.
After creating a character, visit the Advancement section to learn how to spend your XP.
See the Schools section
See the Clans section
See the Flaws section
This will either be from the list, or you can suggest a custom flaw to the game team. You should include this in your backstory.
See the Backgrounds, Advantages, or Skills sections
These free experience points (XP) may be spent on any of the below:
A background, you can only have one.
Advantages from any elements you have access to.
Skills from your school or universal skill lists.
See the Advantages section
These must come from your clan’s primary or secondary elements. Each advantage can only be taken once and must typically be bought in order, starting at the first level, with the exception of advantages from your primary element which can be bought in any order. If you do not want the ability granted by an advantage, you may choose to trade out the ability on that advantage for one of the universal advantages instead.
See the Skills section
These must come from your school or from universal skill lists. Each skill may be purchased up to the fifth level. The first two purchases in a skill have known mechanics. After this, each level of a skill provides a custom ability that must be agreed between yourself and the game team prior to the game.
This should also contain details about your flaw and background if you possess one. This is optional, but is used by the game team to weave your character into the story, and we recommend submitting one. You can send this to the team at thronejade@gmail.com.
You will start with the following attributes, unless modified by earlier choices:
3 HP
Honour, Glory, Influence values at 1
Penumbra Taint at 0
Kū pool and Kū points at 1
See the Advancement section
This game has a flat XP progression. This means everyone has the same amount of XP regardless of whether they are a new or returning character.
All characters currently have additional skill and advantage XP equal to 1 + the amount of events that have been run.
Starting characters begin with the following skills from training as a samurai:
You are able to read (not including cyphers).
You are able to count.
You may wear light, flexible armour such as leather. This will grant 2 AP. Armour should cover a reasonable amount of the head, chest, and limbs. Armour phys reps should be of a realistic standard, and be appropriate to the setting.
If you wear light armour at any point during a respite, the amount of dodges you can use is reduced by 1 for that respite period.
After 30 seconds of appropriate roleplay (for example, searching undergrowth etc), you may find an improvised melee weapon such as a branch. This weapon will last for 3 blows before it breaks and cannot be used further. This weapon may not be used in conjunction with any calls, and must be phys repped by a larp safe weapon.
You may strike and parry with any LARP safe weapon with a maximum total length of 18". Requires appropriate phys reps.
You may strike and parry with any LARP safe weapon with a total length between 19” - 42”. Requires appropriate phys reps.
Characters can purchase the rest of the proficiencies as skills. Some schools gain these proficiencies for free as part of their school or clan abilities.
You may wear heavy, rigid armour such as metal. This will grant 4 AP. Armour should cover a reasonable amount of the head, chest, and limbs. Armour phys reps should be of a realistic standard, and be appropriate to the setting.
If you wear heavy armour at any point during a respite, the amount of dodges you can use is reduced by a maximum of 2 for that respite period.
You are proficient in hand to hand fighting. Hand to hand combat can be performed with appropriate roleplayed blows using a small weapon marked with a yellow ribbon. The ribbon signifies that the weapon does not exist IC.
You may strike and parry with any LARP safe weapon with a total length between 43” - 78”. Requires appropriate phys reps.
You may use LARP safe projectiles fired from an appropriate weapon. Requires appropriate phys reps.
