All characters must choose a flaw at character creation.

Flaws may be chosen from this list, or players may choose a flaw of their own making with agreement from the game team.

You cannot start with a background. You may still gain one as part of character development.
You are known for having done something shameful, even if you did not do it.
Your lasting Glory can never go above 1.
Your family has cast you out.
You cannot have any family mons, or take the Inheritance background.
You can never lie under any circumstances.
You cannot lie or use the Tranquil Façade advantage.
You have gone too deep, and your soul has been scarred for it.
You start with +1 lasting Penumbra Taint. Lasting Taint can never be removed.
Your ancestor angered a powerful being while acting dishonourably, who cursed your bloodline.
Your lasting Honour can never go above 1.
Your time will come. You have felt the dark wind calling for you, and you will recognise it when it comes to claim you.
1 use per event, when you would have died, you recover to 1 HP. However, at some point you will encounter an unavoidable and spectacular death.
There is a shameful secret within your or your family’s past.
This may impact your social standing should it be found out.
You have a desperate fear of one of the elements: Chi (Earth), Fū (Air), Ka (Fire), or Sui (Water).
You should interpret this in a way appropriate to your character, and it should have a significant impact on their life.
You have a significant personal enemy.
They may confront you, or plot against you.
Your ancestors have forsaken you.
You cannot connect to your ancestors.
You were born with a weak body.
Your maximum starting HP is reduced by 1.
You are haunted by a spirit, perhaps of one of your ancestors.
You can see spirits (NPCs wearing a hat edged with yellow ribbons) and they are attracted to you.
You are hunted by a group or organisation.
This organisation will be hostile to you.
You or your family owes a significant favour that you are honour bound to fulfil when required.
You may be approached to fulfil the favour at any point.
Your birth was heralded by ill omens, and an ominous divination.
You were born under a prophecy of great doom and disaster, which may come true.
