The students enrolled in the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course, Engineering, Design and Development (EDD) will be holding an open poster session on Wednesday, June 12th in room E-16 at IHS from 5:30 to 7pm. This poster session is informal for attendees and open to the public so you can come at any time that is convenient for you and stay as long as is convenient for you. There are six groups of students who will have their senior engineering projects on display with topics including:
1. Engineering Exploration – a personality profiling website designed for high school students to better determine which field of engineering best suits their personality.
2. Underwater Boat Hull Inspection – a remote-control submarine with a live feed video camera attached to it, designed to inspect boat hulls and outdrive systems on boats that are too large to be easily pulled from the water.
3. 3D scanner – a device that is designed to make a 3D CAD model from a physical object. The students also developed a 2 week curriculum that would be used to build the 3D scanner and teach the students about the potential and uses of the technology.
4. Swim Lap Counter – a device that will be submersible in a swimming pool to allow for a competitive swimmer to practice and count laps without the help from a second person to display their lap count under the water.
5. IHS ID Card System – a system has been identified that could utilize the current student ID cards at IHS to allow students to sign in to class for attendance purposes, cash out in the cafeteria using their ID cards and check in to privileged areas around IHS such as the library or H courtyard.
6. CNC Plasma – students designed a computer controlled device that will integrate a computer CAD model with a plasma torch (a device that is used to cleanly and accurately cut most types of metal) to create parts that are highly accurate. This machine will have a workspace of 4ft by 4ft and is a technology that is currently in use in most professional production and fabrication shops.
You may enter the event using the exterior doors of the Technology and Engineering Lab E-16 via the E Parking lot just off of Lake Street, near the ICSD District Office.
