Code Red Robotics Performs Well at World Championships
Post date: May 2, 2014 3:35:51 PM
This past week, 33 members of Ithaca High School's FIRST Robotics team, Code Red Robotics, traveled the 16 hours to St. Louis Missouri, where they competed at the FRC Championship. This international event hosted the 400 best teams from around the world, as they competed for the championship title. Code Red performed admirably, frequently holding the #1 position in their 100 team division over the first two days.
Proudly representing Ithaca High School, the community, and their many sponsors, they ended the 2014 season placed 12th in their division with a 8-2-0 record. While they were not selected for one of eight alliances in the elimination round, the team was very pleased with their performance.
Members of the team will share their experience and robotics program with the community at a special Sciencenter showcase on Saturday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. Other outreach activities will be scheduled throughout the summer and fall to continue to infuse an excitement for science, technology, and engineering throughout the community and to thank so many for the wonderful support the team receives.
More than 70 students participate in Code Red Robotics each year under the guidance of technology teacher Ian Krywe and a dozen volunteer mentors. Competing at two regional events and the Championship wouldn’t be possible without the support of many sponsors and individual donors. This year’s supporters include lead sponsor Rheonix as well as BAE Systems, BorgWarner Morse TEC, Cornell College of Engineering, Cornell Center for Computational Sustainability, Cornell Computing and Information Sciences, Cayuga Medical Center, CBORD, Cognitive TPG, Cayuga Family Medicine, Datapoint Labs, Tetra Tech, Vector Magnetics, M&T Bank, NASA Glenn Research Center, Sciarabba Walker, Tompkins Trust Company, U-Haul of Ithaca, AccuFab, Incodema. Innovative Metal Works, Ithaca City School District, ICSD Board of Education, Ithaca High School, IPEI, and Ithaca STEM Advocates. A thank you event for sponsors is being planned for later in May.
