AY2021: READING SKILLS (TUE. 4) COURSE EVALUATION
It is time for self-reflection. Please write about your own reflection as a learner of this course.
I’m able to speak up and be proactive.
I think that my essay writing skills have improved through the English Reading Skills 2 class. In this course, I learned how to write an MLA-style essay, which helped me understand how to write in a formal way. I think this is a skill that will be useful in my future life, and I would like to improve it .
I forgot to submit few assignments. I learned more deeply by writing essays. I am grad I was able to attend almost all of the class. I want to make use of my experience writing English essays when writing research papers.
It was good to have the opportunity to think about freedom of expression. I couldn’t submit Essay 2 because I couldn’t quite put my thoughts together, but I think that the fact that I seriously struggled with it was meaningful in itself.
I had only written English essays of 100 words at most, so I was able to train myself. I also enjoyed reading the hidden meaning of the white elephant, although it was difficult. It made me want to try reading English books.
As a learner, I was able to read essays, learn about social events, and learn new vocabulary. Also, by writing my own essay, I was able to not only read, but also deepen my own thoughts. The group discussion activities also allowed me to take in different points of view.
I have rarely had the opportunity to write essays in the past. Therefore, it took me a long time to figure out how to compose it in Japanese. This time, I wrote my essay in English and received opinions from my group members, which made me feel a little less uncomfortable about writing essays.
I have gained the power to criticize literary writing. Also, I think my communication skills have improved.
I experienced the difficulty of outputting the English knowledge I had learned so far as needed.I learned that I still needed more practice to be able to use English.I want to shorten the time between thinking in my head and saying it out loud.
I learned about the “MLA format” for the first time in the class. I think it will be a good base for reading and writing academic articles, so I would like to use my experience in the class to study academic articles.
The hardest thing I did in this course was peer review. I learned how to write an accurate review. At first, it was just a critique, but little by little, I became a better reviewer. This is because I was able to exchange opinions with other students. I think I will be able to use this when I write reports and read them again in the future.
In addition to reading articles in English about something I want to research, I can now learn to read articles in Japanese and summarize them in English. I am now able to compete in fields where Japanese language support is limited.
It was good to learn the format of writing in English.
By reading peers‘ essays, I could think from a different perspective. This experience will be practical when I write my paper in English.
It was very good because I noticed my lack of vocabulary and slow reading comprehension. I think I was able to acquire vocabulary and speed reading skills through the class.
I think I should have thought about where I could use the skills I acquired this time while learning.
There were some words in the model’s text that I didn’t understand, so I looked them up as I read, and my vocabulary grew. In my essay, I was able to accept the critical opinions of my peers and use them to improve my own essay.
The content of the text was very interesting. I was particularly interested in the death penalty. Many of the developed countries in the world are moving toward the abolition of the death penalty, but I wanted to find out why. I missed the class schedule for the new year and was absent unexpectedly. I am very sorry.
In developed countries, the death penalty is being abolished, and the lesson was triggered by wondering why. In the fall semester, I missed the class schedule a little and deeply regret that I was absent. Also, my writing skills have improved through the lessons, so I would like to continue writing English.
I thought deeply about the issues in the world that were the theme of essays, and also learned how to write essays that I can use in my future university life.
I learned how to quote correctly and how to write clear and compelling sentences by teaching each other with peers.
I forgot to submit my assignments a few times, so I want to be careful. I think I should have checked the details of the essays I read and absorbed the grammar and vocabulary more efficiently.
I learned how to quote and now I can use it correctly. However, there were times when I submitted it to the last minutes without satisfying the task. I regret this but I’m sure my English skill got improved.
I learned to organize a sentence clearly and think logically. I’m going to apply this skill when I see things logically and find the core structure of them.
I was able to learn how to write sentences in a logical way that is easy for others to understand. I think this will be useful in the future, not only in my job or when I use English, but also when I want to convey my opinion to someone else.
