STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS ON UMBRELLAS

2018 June 6

My association with umbrella is quite unspeakable, as I’m an umbrella thief. I will steal an umbrella whenever I need one. However, I did not steal any today because I got two hanging outside of my apartment. Well, both of them are of course, stolen at some time before.

I don’t feel guilty with my behavior for a few reasons. First, there are too many umbrellas in this city, this country, that I feel stupid to buy one every time I need it. Secondly, I can never remember to take my umbrella with me: either left it in the toilet or train or cafe or anywhere; I’m not used to have an umbrella with me. Thirdly, I’m very bad luck when it comes to the timing that I need an umbrella: whenever I have an umbrella with me, there’s no rain then, which makes me feel stupid to own one. Furthermore, it’s not that I have never bought an umbrella in my life, it’s just that I will loss them as soon as I get one.

“WHY CANT YOU REMEMBER YOUR OWN UMBRELLA?”

After all, it’s another self of mine that chooses not to remember about umbrella.

“WHY IS THAT?”

Because…it’s not for me but the umbrella that chooses to remembers me.

“HOW COME?”

Because it’s the umbrella who protects you. The rain falls on the skin of the umbrella and flows all the way to its fingers and drops onto the ground. You never notice that because you’re well taken care of by this creature.

Which explains why you can never remember your own umbrella because it’s not up to you to remember.

Every umbrella you held you’re being remembered and when this umbrella you have held is given to another person to hold, that person who after you is being marked by the umbrella too.

In the end, umbrellas represent a collective mind: it captures our motions under the rain and our emotions at this specific moment. The emotions inside us flow through the handle and reach the top of the umbrella before absorbed by the rain water.

Umbrellas are trees. They hold us from being burned, wet, hurt and destroyed.

Umbrellas are not trees.

Trees are umbrellas.
