Local Resources

Red Deer offers a wealth of local learning opportunities and experiences for those looking to expand their knowledge. Below is a compilation of some resources highlighted by the Indigenous Perspectives Conference, but this is just a starting point! This website serves as a dynamic resource that continues to evolve and expand, much like we all do. If there's a local (Central Alberta) resource you'd like to see included on this page, please feel free to contact us via email or through our social media channels!

Urban Aboriginal Voices Society

This program is based on the Indigenous Practice of circle making, this initiative provides an opportunity for youth to build cultural identity, learn cultural practices for restoring harmony in relationships. In practicing these methods, the youth promote a more peaceful and just world today and for the next seven generations. The youth in the Peace Camp use their tipi to build an encampment and call a circle wherever they see the need to address bullying, discrimination, and racism in the world around them. Youth are trained as peacemakers from Cree, Blackfoot and Metis traditions:

Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe Society

The society was formed in 2004 by a group of dedicated individuals who had a passion for song and dance. Each Community Practice brings out over 100 participants for each session as we are Red Deer's largest after school dance program. RDADT Society, through the positive cultural arts aims to bring individuals together to enhance and maintain many diverse Indigenous traditions. By creating and sustaining a positive, interactive understanding of First Nations protocols and ceremony, our goal is to instill pride in our membership.

Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery

The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery (MAG)  is an excellent resource that is accessible and appropriate for all learners; schools, families and individuals. The MAG often features and highlights examples of Indigenous excellence, perspectives and histories. Explore the website to see the exhibits and experiences currently being hosted by the museum.
