The Indigenous Perspectives Conference (IPC) is now entirely planned and executed by members of the Education Undergraduate Society of Red Deer Polytechnic. The IPC is a conference created by educators, for educators. We aim to enhance the knowledge and awareness of Indigenous experiences and perspectives within our community.
Why I Got Involved:
Hey! My name is Becca Glackin and I am a Second-year Bachelor of Education student at RDP. I am excited and honored to be a part of the committee for the IPC. I can’t wait to see all the different learning opportunities and advance Truth and Reconciliation in our community.
Why I Got Involved:
Hello! My name is Evelynn! I joined the Indigenous Conference Committee because I’m passionate about appreciation and supporting Indigenous culture. I believe in creating space where Indigenous voices are heard and respected and the culture is understood, this committee offers the opportunity to have that vision. I want to help bridge gaps between communities, particularly by sharing the richness and beauty of Indigenous culture with students at Red Deer Polytechnic. I see this as a way to not only educate but inspire a deeper respect for Indigenous heritage, encouraging others to embrace diversity and support the ongoing efforts for reconciliation and empowerment of Indigenous peoples. I am specifically passionate about Indigenous education, motherhood, children and rights. I look forward to working alongside my amazing peers towards the future of the committee!
Why I Got Involved:
Tansi. My name is Bryson Swampy and I am a Second-year education major for the secondary program. This is my first year as a committee member of the Indigenous Perspectives Conference. I am excited to help organize this event so that I can help spread awareness for indigenous culture for everyone within the community of RDP and the city of Red Deer.
Why I Got Involved:
Hello! I am Niel Calixterio, a third-year student in the Early Years Degree Program. This is my second year serving on the Indigenous Perspectives Conference committee. My interest in this work stems from a strong desire to learn more about Indigenous teachings and make a significant contribution to their understanding and appreciation. I am always encouraged to expand my knowledge, make connections, and advocate for the respectful integration of Indigenous perspectives in education.
The Indigenous Perspectives panel is inviting new members to join us for our upcoming conference in 2025. If you're curious but need more information, you're welcome to attend our meetings. This is an excellent starting point if you wish to take on a more active role next year. If you'd like to get involved, please reach out to us at ipc.rdp@gmail.com for further details.
Participating in the Indigenous Perspectives Committee provides valuable learning experiences and serves as a step towards reconciliation, not just for educators, but for all citizens.
