Mt. Sinai is the mountain Moses led the Hebrews to in their exodus from Egypt. It is where God came down and gave Moses the 10 Commandments (Exodus 19, 20, 24). It is mentioned by name 38 times in the Bible. Mt. Sinai is the most important mountain in the Old Testament and is only surpassed in significance by Mt. Zion in Jerusalem.
Moses led them out from the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. (18) All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the LORD had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently. (19) As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply. (20) The LORD came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain. Exodus 19:17-20
The hike to the top of Mount Sinai (7,497 ft elevation) is 3 miles one way. Starting from the monastery, you will hike 2.5 miles up the “Camel Trail” — a steady, but not-too-steep incline. The trail is wide and well-worn. It’s called the Camel Trail because it’s wide and flat enough to ride a camel. There are many places to stop for views and rest along the way. The last 1/2 mile is 750 stone steps up to the top of the mountain. It takes about 2 hours to ascend and an hour to descend. https://www.kevinandamanda.com/mount-sinai/

https://discoveredsinai.com/ Within the last twenty-five years there has been compelling evidence that the real Mt. Sinai is actually due east of the traditional site in NW Saudi Arabia. It hasn't been until the last few years that the Saudi government has been more open to foreigners visiting the location.
