許惠晴長期關注自身的社會化歷程,以女性身份與日常生活為主軸,作品形式與使用媒材多樣,包括觀念、裝置,行為,新媒體等。她藉由創作過程反思生命感知經驗中的不適、矛盾與掙扎,透過身體「看」與「被看」的樣態,找尋當代社會中,人的思想與身體自主性,同時觸及社會的、文化的、政治的、性別的身體景觀,進而引導觀看者重新審視習自身日常的生活經驗。
她的藝術作品形式各異,例如早期的作品《塑身彈珠台》與《去你的,來我的!》便是結合自身的減肥經驗與掙扎到憤怒,對服膺於消費主義的自己提出反思;作品隨著職業身份的轉變,變成一位往來國境之間的空服員,將這段生命經驗結合創作計畫完成旅館計畫多件作品;再而成為小學教師,將藝術的眼光轉向反思社會賦予教師之責任與權力關係,審視教育現場中規訓與懲罰的種種行為,完成了《有字天書Ⅰ》、《甲上星》等作品;並從話語權中發展出多件《失‧語》系列作品。近年的創作則關注女性在符合社會期待下的乖順表現,向社會刻板印象提出逆向提問,作品的場景從家庭環境到飛機客艙,再到傳統老街布行,都是透過創作的形式映射出生命和意識中對於當下生活的一種感知體驗和狀態。
Hsu, Hui-ching has been focusing on her own socialization process for a long time. With female identity and daily life as main focus, the forms and mediums of her artworks are diverse, including conceptual art, installations, performance art, and new media, etc. Through the creational process, she reflects on the sensory experiences of discomfort, contradictions and struggles in life, and via the way of "seeing" and "being seen" of physical body, she searches for the autonomy of people's thoughts and bodies in contemporary society, as well as touches on the body landscapes from social, cultural, political, and gender perspective. Eventually viewers are led to re-examine their own daily life experiences.
Her artworks take various forms. For instance, her early works Body-Shaping Pinball Machine and F*ck Off and Here Comes My Way combine the artist’s own weight loss experience and the sentiment transition from struggle to anger, and reflect on how deeply she has been convinced by consumerism; As her professional identity changed to be a flight attendant traveling between countries, life experiences during this period were combined with the creative project to complete several works of the Hotel Project Series; Then she became a primary school teacher. She further turned her artistic vision to reflect on the responsibilities and power relationships given to teachers by society, and examined the various behaviors of discipline and punishment in the education scene. She completed works such as The Book of Heaven with Words I and Grade A with Star; And she also developed a number of works in the Right to Speak Series from the right to voice. In recent years, her art creations have focused on women's submissive performance in line with social expectations, raising questions against the social stereotype impressions. The scenes in the works range from household environments to airplane cabins and then to traditional old street fabric shops. Through the form of creation, it reflects the perceptual experience and state of current life in life and consciousness.
