Staff enforce these rules in accordance with their intended purpose and recognizes that it's unreasonable to expect players to fully understand a rules intended purpose compared against the rule as it is written. For this reason, good-faith actions taken within the ambiguities of the rules as written are natural and acceptable.

What will not be tolerated however, is repeatedly seeking loopholes within the rules as they are written to exploit the wording of said rules. Persistent violations may result in further action from Staff.

Questions and suggestions about specific rules may be asked at any time by putting in a ticket.

Characters must be 18 or older and visibly appear 18+. No exceptions.

No gods, demi-gods, deities, or omniscient/omnipotent entities. As it would be unfair and/or cause out-of-character chaos. Please see World Index for extended Rules on Gods on sim.

Creating a character born as an Aberration or a hybrid of one is not allowed, as it would result in character death.

Howling Hills is a sim built around creativity and so we ask that players do not use Bots or AI to imitate player roleplay accounts. Mesh NPC's are fine, but the full scale SL account is not allowed.

GENERAL RULES

Participants must be 18 years or older to engage in roleplay within this community.

No children avatars, No child NPC, and No child-like avatars are permitted.

Treat each other with respect and civility. Out-of-character (OOC) maliciousness, drama, hate speech, and bad attitudes will result in a ban.

No harassment or discrimination.

No metagaming, god-modding, power gaming, thought posting/projecting.

All offensive roleplay should be discussed and agreed upon in private messaging before being acted upon.

The provided Dice HUD is to be used for combat unless both parties agree upon RP combat. Please hold yourselves accountable, and if others are not doing the same, say something.

We are all adults; if you have an issue with someone out-of-character (OOCly), try to fix the issue yourselves. If you have tried to no avail, submit a help ticket. If you do not have Discord, contact a member of staff. If you have Discord and encounter an issue, please use the Support Ticket channel.

Each account is allowed to have one house and one shop. Your prims will be shared between your rental shop and your house if they are on the same sim, and you can use them as you see fit. However, it's important to note that if you own a shop building, you must create a shop within it. Please refrain from using the shop building solely to gain more prims for your house.

No Bloodlines HUDs - No EC:A&D HUDs - No Push Magic HUDs, etc. If you are found on the sim with them, you will be temporarily banned from the sim for 24 hours. If you abuse this rule, you will be permanently banned.

You may have up to 3 active characters at any given time per account; however, you do not need to submit additional applications unless its a different account as we are trusting our community to adhere to the very lenient ruleset. This limitation is in place due to the available character slots on the Hud being set to three. If someone is found to be violating this rule, they will kindly be asked to retire a character temporarily until a 3rd slot becomes available.

We do not allow anime-styled characters or anime-styled furries. (JOMO is acceptable for bipedals as are some Bespoke. Players may be asked to provide a photo with their application or to show their avatar to a Staff Member for approval.

We do not allow the use of canon characters like Naruto or John Wick. However, you can build a character inspired by the concept of another or hailing from a similar place. It's essential to create your own unique and distinct characters for the best roleplaying experience.

In densely populated areas like the town square or grocery store, it's strongly recommended to adopt a more 'non-magical' appearance for lore reasons. Body modifications resembling those found in today's world, such as tongue splits, pointed ears, unique hair/eye colors, and non-futuristic prosthetics, are encouraged and align with the current lore. If you're curious about the rationale behind this advice, refer to the lore for more details.

As a Modern fantasy sim, dressing in alignment with your character's culture, background, and origins is permitted. However, in large public areas, adherence to present-day modern attire is suggested. Please be prepared to accept responsibility for other characters' reasonable reactions if this guideline is not followed.

We trust our roleplayers not to overly min-max their characters, allowing for the inclusion of hybrids. However, if the character didn't start as a hybrid, we ask for a thorough roleplay narrative supporting their transformation, extending beyond a single scene. Ensure that the transformation scene also makes logical sense. If any drawbacks from the added race cancel out your current ones, kindly accept an extra weakness that comes from the other.

In roleplay, the essence of life should be cherished, mirroring the real world's precious nature. While faced with adversity, such as a menacing firearm, one need not cower in perpetual fear, but rather react authentically to the imminent threat. Acknowledging the value of life doesn't equate to perpetual timidity; it entails crafting responses that resonate with the gravity of the situation. Remember, it's not about being perpetually scared of the prospect of virtual demise, but about infusing depth and authenticity into your character's reactions when confronted with life-altering circumstances. Life in roleplay is a canvas for narrative exploration, and how you paint those moments adds layers to the shared story.

Short term NPCs (Less than 3 Scenes) don't require a character slot.
Long Term NPCs (More than 3 Scenes) require a character slot.

If the NPC is on an acct that doesn't have an approved character, it will need to be app'd for approval. NPCs must follow the same rules as Player Characters.
