Pilates vs. Kickboxing for Weight Loss

A lot of people ask this question, which one is better? Both Pilates and kickboxing are very effective ways to lose weight and get fit, so it’s impossible to say that one is better than the other. What matters more than which workout you choose, however, is how you approach it and what your goals are.

Per hour of activity, pilates burns more calories than kickboxing and most other forms of exercise. And when you look at caloric expenditure over a 30-minute workout period, pilates still comes out on top by a decent margin as compared to kickboxing. The reason: Pilating requires deeper breathing and stronger core work than kicking and punching, so your body burns extra calories to keep up with your movements. As a bonus, it’s easier to get in shape quickly while practicing pilate —which means better results!

Both workouts are intense cardio sessions, both tone up and slim down your body; therefore, it can be difficult to determine which one is more effective for weight loss. What’s important is that you complete a high-intensity workout regularly –regardless of whether you choose Pilates or kickboxing—and focus on incorporating high-intensity strength training 2-3 times per week, with 30 minutes of HIIT cardio in between sessions.
