Steambots is a casual puzzle platformer created by Zeta Games. Steambots was originally a Game Jam concept which was worked on during our education at our University. The game jam had a theme of "Every Life Counts", which led us to brainstorm many different concepts, but ultimately landed on a concept around 3 robots, each built with a unique purpose, allowing them to work together to make their escape from the facility.
This Game Jam concept received a lot of positive feedback, as well as winning multiple awards during the game jam event, leading us to decide to take the concept further through the development of a full game version as part of a Zeta Games IP. For this, I worked as a game designer, with my main duties revolving around designing levels, documentation, story development and adding input in all elements of development.
Game Jam
For the full version of the game we chose to completely rennovate the games style, moving away from a gritty steampunk style, to a far more vibrant and stylised look as par tof our mission to elevate the project.

As mentioned above, Steambots won multiple awards upon completion of the Game Jam, being Most Commercially Viable, Best Level Design, Best 3D Art, and Community Award.
As development of Steambots had reached a playable and polished state, we decided it was time to begin marketing for the game by producing an announcement trailer and uploading our development journey on social media.
As this was a game jam, there was a short amount of time we had available for development, as well as the fact that we were all studying and producing other games and projects for our University modules. Because of this, we had to iterate quickly and communicate effectively in order to get points across and ensure we would complete the prototype in time.
Fast forward to the new version of Steambots, we have been able to dedicate more time and energy to the project, where we could create far more detailed levels and mechanics for more interesting levels.
