In 2025, I completed my internship with FinixWear, a Singapore-based sustainable and gender-fluid athleisure brand known for its modern “athflow” aesthetic and inclusive ethos, “Free to Be.” During my time there, I took on a cross-functional role spanning visual merchandising, store operations, marketing, and inventory management.
I played a key role in the planning and opening of the brand’s first physical boutique at Keong Saik Road. My responsibilities included researching and shortlisting complementary brands for the multi-label concept, designing store layouts and customer journeys, sourcing fixtures under tight budget constraints, and executing visual merchandising from concept mock-ups to final installation. I ensured brand consistency across both physical and digital platforms, managing Shopify product listings, website banners, email marketing campaigns, and bundle strategies to support sales performance.
Beyond creative direction, I was heavily involved in daily retail operations from stock organisation, tagging, and fulfilment to coordinating freelancers, designers, and event logistics for the store’s grand opening. Working in a small, fast-paced team required strong adaptability, leadership, and problem-solving skills, especially when managing tight timelines, limited manpower, and physical store setup tasks.
This internship gave me end-to-end exposure to running a fashion retail business, balancing branding, customer experience, logistics, and digital marketing. It strengthened my resilience, independence, and ability to lead initiatives under pressure, while preparing me for future roles in brand management, retail operations, and creative business development.
My Jobscope and Work Done
As a Retail Merchandiser Intern at FinixWear, I took on a cross-functional role covering store planning, visual merchandising, marketing, inventory management, and daily retail operations. My internship coincided with the brand’s transition from an online-focused business to the opening of its first physical boutique, which allowed me to be directly involved in end-to-end retail execution.
I assisted in planning and setting up the new retail store, including layout design, furniture sourcing, space measurement, and merchandising execution. I supported operational logistics such as stock organization, tagging, barcoding, stocktaking, and fulfillment, ensuring accuracy across physical and digital inventory systems.
Beyond operations, I contributed to branding and digital marketing efforts by creating email campaigns, website banners, Shopify product listings, and promotional materials. I also supported event planning and execution for the store’s launch, handling logistics, visual setup, and coordination with freelancers and partners.
Overall, my role required adaptability, initiative, and the ability to balance creative direction with operational efficiency in a fast-paced small business environment.
During my internship, I played a leading role in the planning and opening of FinixWear’s first physical boutique. I researched and shortlisted over 100 complementary brands to build a cohesive multi-label retail concept, engaging with business owners and attending trade shows to strengthen brand partnerships.
In store planning and visual merchandising, I developed multiple layout proposals, created mock-ups, manually measured spatial dimensions, and sourced budget-friendly fixtures from platforms such as Shopee, Carousell, Taobao, and IKEA. I designed the customer journey, curated in-store storytelling elements, and executed final merchandising displays — ensuring every visual detail aligned with the brand identity.
On the digital front, I managed Shopify website updates, curated product listings, developed bundle strategies, and designed website banners. I also planned and executed EDM campaigns in Klaviyo, integrated Canva designs, and improved monthly email templates to drive better engagement. Additionally, I proposed SEO blog ideas and assisted with backend edits to optimize content presentation.
For marketing and events, I contributed to launch campaign proposals and supported the grand opening execution, overseeing visual styling, décor setup, and in-store activation details.
In inventory management, I maintained stock accuracy by organising SKUs, updating line sheets, conducting stock checks, tagging new arrivals, and supporting order fulfillment. I also assisted in pop-up visual merchandising at Design Orchard, ensuring display consistency and garment presentation standards.
Through these responsibilities, I gained hands-on exposure to retail space planning, brand storytelling, e-commerce operations, and multi-functional store management, strengthening both my creative execution and operational decision-making skills.
