After our quick tour of London, we travelled to Belgium where we met up with some of our Michielsen and Willemse family. We had a great visit, including a big family reunion on April 27 and a visit to Carolyn's Great-Aunt, "Tante Nonnika", at her abbey. On our last day in Belgium, we spent the day touring Antwerp with an excellent tour guide, Carolyn's cousin, Julie. Below are Toby's highlights from our day in Antwerp!
Antwerp is a city in Belgium and its name comes from the legend of a guy defeating a giant by cutting off its hand. Antwerp (handwerper) translates to "hand thrower". The place that we were having a rest at had a really cool playground. The playground had a bunch of ropes that you could climb on. In Antwerp, there was a chocolate museum where we learned some pretty cool things about Belgian Chocolate. In the chocolate museum we went through a couple of rooms that showed us the different stages that the chocolate goes through, like one of the interesting things is that the cocoa bean pod contains more than 50 cocoa beans and only grows every 5 or 6 months and contains hardly enough chocolate to make a chocolate bar. Overall, Antwerp was really cool to learn about.
