When my Auntie Kate and Uncle Doug came to visit us, we went to Meserani Snake Park in Arusha. We saw a lot of snakes (as you can imagine), some crocodiles, and camels (huh?????). There was also a Maasi museum.
At the snake park we saw a lot of snakes, such as…pythons, red spitting cobras, puff adders, black spitting cobras, black and green mambas, vine snakes, and boomslang. We went on the day that the snakes were being fed!!!! The black mamba was fed 2 live hamsters. When they were thrown into the mamba’s cage the black mamba paralyzed one hamster in mid air!!!! Then he spent a looooong time searching for it and a looong time eating it. The black spitting cobra was fed 6 live chicks. One of the chicks was really brave and pecked one of the cobras. Then, the cobra hunted the chick down and ate it. It was really cool but my sister did not like it (for some reason?????).
Riding a camel is very wonky. Luckily, we got to ride some because for some reason there were some maasai selling camel rides. Getting up off the ground includes lurching forwards and backwards and then the camel does a wonky walk (you think you’ll fall off, but you won’t). Getting down involves lurching backwards and forwards. It seems scary but it’s not when you get used to it.
The maasai museum was cool. It took us through the maasai lifestyle and how they make a boma (maasai house, though we already knew this). After the museum, we went outside where there was a bunch of bomas with shops in them and my sister convinced my mom to buy an anklet for her (it got broken). After that, we went to the snake park bar to cool down. In the bar, there were shirts and other stuff hanging of the ceiling with notes on them left behind by tourists. The museum was cool, and the bar was cool too.
Meserani Snake Park, riding camels, and the maasai musem was really fun. We were really happy that my Auntie Kate came to see us. We are having a really fun time in Tanzania, but can’t wait to get back to Canada. Thank you for reading my post.
