Spatial Maps
Infrastructure
Through GEF6, PALARIS has mapped "missing" infrastructure. This information is essential for planning. See aerial mosaics of infrastructure such as the National Landfill in Aimeliik, National Prison in Ngchesar, and site of the Ngiwal water intake.
See the SAMPLE Ngarchelong map, which now shows the locations of three water tanks. MNRET, PALARIS, and PPUC are partnering to ensure that all water infrastructure is mapped. Why? Because homes and businesses need water, and it is more economically feasible to build close to and below in elevation to an existing water tank.
Tourism Sites
Tourism sites have never been fully mapped by a public entity (for instance, private companies have mapped sites but they own the data and the maps). Through GEF6, a partnership of States, PALARIS, PVA, and MNRET are creating a comprehensive "base map" that includes current and potential tourist sites. With this information, State Planning Teams can make good decisions about land use so as to maximize economic values.
See this SAMPLE Ngarchelong map - it is not final or complete but shows how the field visit information is turned into a map. This is part of a process of identifying sites (from partners like the State, PVA, and BCET), visiting the sites to get GPS data, and mapping the sites using digital tools (which PALARIS does). Once all input data is on the map, it will be sent to Ngarchelong for approval: Does this map include everything?
