After buying and reading almost every yoga book on the market, this curriculum draws from the best of the best. You can buy all books ahead of time, or as needed per module. Each module specifies which books are needed. You can also get the audio (get two free Audible audiobooks here) or Kindle versions.
If you like the idea of a pose deck to help you practice, learn, and combine the yin poses, I highly recommend grabbing yourself the Yin Yoga Deck. I designed it specifically for this YTT course!
This is the best introduction book I've read on Yin yoga. It was between this book and Yin Yoga: Principles and Practice by Paul Grilley, but The Complete Guide won because it is more thorough. While Paul Grilley may be one of the founders of Yin yoga, I think Bernie Clark packaged the history, philosophy, and practice of Yin yoga in a more accessible, compelling way.
This is beautifully photographed, well-written, and includes an expanded list of Yin poses that other Yin yoga books just don't offer. I first discovered Travis in 2014 through his Ultimate Yogi DVD program (which I recommend to everyone), so I knew this book was a gem even before buying it. A Journey Into Yin Yoga is a must-own yoga book for yin and yang yogis alike. You're going to love it!
There are several excellent yoga anatomy books, but I think this one is the most fun! It includes all the vital information you need to know about basic anatomy, plus very helpful anatomical drawings for you to color in and learn. There are even a set of tear-out cardboard flashcards in the back of the book.
The Bible of teaching yoga! This book covers just about everything any yoga teacher needs to know. From history and philosophy to practical teaching techniques, this book has it all.
While not Yin specific, this is a must-have book for all yoga teachers. It goes over in exquisite detail how to sequence a yoga class and make it flow from beginning to end. It also contains nearly 100 yoga sequences in the vinyasa and hatha styles.
Before reading this book, I thought chakras were basically bullshit. After reading this book, I finally understood them to be a fascinating and relatable psychological perspective of human nature. This book is accessible, fun, and easy to understand.
This is my favorite book on Traditional Chinese Medicine because it's a fun and easy to read (but in-depth!) introduction to TCM. It includes fun quizzes and exercises to help you better understand yourself from this unique perspective.
This audio meditation CD walks you through each of the chakras with an amazing self-aware body scan. It also serves as an excellent practical introduction to the chakra system.
This is one of the most accessible ways to read, interpret, and apply the Tao De Ching I have ever come across. Yin yoga is all about balance and acceptance, which is what The Tao teaches.
