Ukrainian Research Institute of Oils and Fats of the National academy of agrarian sciences of Ukraine
The Ukrainian Research Institute of Oils and Fats was founded in 1932 in Kharkiv in accordance with the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR (the initial name was the Ukrainian Research Institute of Fats). The institution was established under the Kharkiv Institute of Chemical Technology and was subordinated to the Ukrainian Trust of the Oil and Fat Industry. An important role in the institute's work in the pre-war years was played by Professor B. Tiutiunnykov — Head of the Fat Technology Department at the Kharkiv Institute of Chemical Technology, who concurrently served as the Director of the Institute of Fats (1932-1937) .
In December 1937, the institution was reorganized into the Central Scientific Research Laboratory (CSRL), which was located on Kaplunivska Street, 16 (now Mystetstv Street). With the outbreak of the Second World War, the laboratory was evacuated to the city of Fergana (Uzbekistan), and after the liberation of Eastern Ukraine in December 1943, the CSRL returned to Kharkiv to Simferopolskyi Lane, 6.
On April 23, 1956, the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of the Oil and Fat Industry (URIOFI) was created on the basis of the CSRL. In 1964, the institute moved to a new building on Dziuba Avenue, where it is located to this day. This period was marked by the creation of new scientific departments and an experimental plant.
In accordance with the decree of the Minister of Food Industry of the USSR dated March 26, 1975, the institute was transformed into the Kharkiv Branch of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Fats, which became part of the "Oliazhyrprom" scientific and production association.
After Ukraine gained independence, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Oils and Fats (URIOF) was established in 1992 on the basis of the Kharkiv Branch of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Fats and the Kharkiv Branch of the Leningrad Design and Construction Bureau. Since 2004, the Institute has been subordinated to the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences (UAAS), which was granted national status in 2010 (now the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS)).
For decades, the Institute has remained an integral part of the oil and fat industry. Starting in 1992, the specialists of URIOF have developed practically all the current technological and normative documentation for the oil and fat industry of Ukraine. The institution maintains close cooperation with the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute": in 1987, a branch of the Fat Technology Department of NTU "KhPI" was established at URIOF for the targeted training of students and the implementation of joint scientific research.
The Institute has participated in organizing production for such well-known trademarks as "Oleina", "Chumak", "Torchyn Produkt", "Shchedro", and others, implementing modern equipment from leading global companies. For high production indicators, in October 2001, the staff was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with the presentation of a commemorative badge.
