While running Arduino program you can trace the data flow using the Tools>Serial Monitor function.

This example got signal by Analog because it is continuously taking in information. whereas a digital input signal would be simply like a switch.

In real world applications i could see it being used for touchless dispenseries, to actuate joints, or maybe focusing for cameras and printers.
