Week 4

Material Properties is an interesting topic, when picking materials I've never truly looked into the scientific reasoning behind it. Strength, elasticity, plasticity, hardness are all very important factors as well as how the materials feel, react and hold up in the long run. When creating products or building structures these are the very things we need to give serious thought to. In the example of an airplane if solely choosing between metals you would use aluminum because of its lightweight properties as well as its corrosion resistance. However, if we look at other materials, advanced composites are the better way to go, because they are lighter, provide vibration absorption, and excellent tension handling capabilities.
