Winchester - Chamber of Commerce Shield and Winchester-Banbury Cup

Eliminators have been held in Winchester as far back as the 1920s. The Chamber of Commerce Shield was presented to the District by the Chamber of Commerce in 1922, following an event held there called 'Shopping Week', during which a variety of Scout displays and competitions took place in the park (trek carts, tug of war etc.). The trophy came to be awarded to the winners of the District camping competition up until at least the 1970s, and sometime later, the Weller Trophy was added for presentation to the runners-up . More recently the Winchester-Banbury Cup was awarded to the camping competition winners (so called because it was donated by a former leader from Winchester who moved to Banbury, and some time afterwards organised a joint camp for his old and new Districts).

The 1933 eliminator took place over 23-24 June at Mr Brown's Farm.

The 1937 eliminator was held over 19-20 June and had only two entries, and they were of a very similar standard. In the end, the Peter Symonds (presumably a school Troop) were declared the winners with 179 points, while No.7 Stanmore were second with 173 points.

The 1948 eliminator took place over 12-13 June.

The 1954 eliminator took place over 19-20 June.

The fates of the Chamber of Commerce Shield and Weller Trophy are not known. The Winchester-Banbury cup was stolen, and as eliminators are no longer routinely held, it has not been replaced.
