These are the results of the colour theory survey which I have categorized into male and female sections to observe whether there actually is a gender difference between male and female colour preferences.
Female Male
At first sight, we can see that the female audience has a more broad range of favourable colours than the males, who have picked fewer colours. Black is the most popular preferred colour, with both women (32.5%) and men (40.4%) selecting it. There is a high prevalence in choice of purple, red and green with both being the next top choices for both males and females. Observing the trends, men have chosen fewer and more basic colour choices, going for a colour scheme that would be majorly accepted as masculine, while this reason was not given in the responses majority had related their favourite colours to fashion choices saying they would look good worn. On the other hand, women gave more descriptive reasons for choosing their favourite colours focusing more on emotions and feelings being evoked rather than the material reasons of liking the colours. They've also chosen a more diverse colour palette showcasing that women may have a tendency to focus on colour more than men.
Female Male
Orange, Yellow and Pink are the most disliked colours chosen by both males and females. The main reasons given for disliking said colours are either because they are too bright or too dull. People tend to dislike certain colours due to their associations or different/conflicting ideas about the colours. Girls can have a tendency to hate pink due to being told since they've been a child that it is what they are 'supposed' to like thus we can see 10.7% of females disliking the colour, mainly stating that people assume pink to be their favourite due to them being a girl or the colours are too loud or come across as annoying. Many of the male responses didn't have a particular reason for disliking the colour but solely due to preference and that the colour either won't look good dressed up or is too bold.

Here is my raw data in the form of a spreadsheet
Blue = MaleRed = Female Yellow = Others/ Prefer not to sayThe results of the colour theory survey have given me a great insight into what kind of colour palette, scheme and theme I will be going with. As a magazine is a type of product that is made to be used by the audience, creating a product that is more customer-oriented rather than being completely new to customer expectations is more of the direction I would want to go in. Collectively, many of the respondents; both male and female, have a preference for monochromatic looks and would rather go for softer, more easy-on-the-eyes colours rather than loud and bright. This research has provided me with multiple ideas on how I would like to go forward with developing my brand identity and product and how I will be able to keep my audience engaged and active in the production of my product. Thus, ensuring that the distribution of the final magazine goes smoothly.
