Within my initial overview I will be outlining the basic elements I would want to cover in my final magazine production. It provides a brief outlook to what exactly will my magazine be about and how I will incorporate different aspects and conventions into my final product.
From the start, I knew that any topic I chose for my portfolio had to be unique. Something that had never been researched before, and particularly something that people rarely discuss. My notion has evolved significantly since it was first written down. When I first opened Google and looked for fashion publications, I was only confronted with female models and way too few masculine magazines, which sparked an idea in my head. I knew exactly what I wanted to create.
My initial proposal outline included focusing the magazine on male representation in the fashion industry. I wanted to talk about how toxic masculinity has affected males not only in the world of fashion, but in society as a whole, and what the fashion industry could be like if we allowed men of the opposite gender to freely express themselves.
I want my magazine to be centred on males, but it should also be inclusive to a diverse variety of people. I may enhance my base idea more as I move forward with the legitimate planning of my shoot, but I am also unable to showcase all of my ideas owing to a lack of personal equipment and expertise. Another factor I want to highlight in my magazine is the new minimalistic and basic look that is now popular among fashion magazines. Instead of overloading the cover page with sell and cover lines, I'd like to highlight a few crucial phrases on a typical content page and a sophisticated double layout.
Due to the difficulty in recruiting models, I may not be able to cover a wide range of topics in my magazine. However, I plan to create props that reflect my subgenre of art while also challenging traditional magazine conventions. The reference blog also included pages showcasing traditional aspects of a magazine, such as cologne ads and fashion prints, as her magazine was also focused on fashion. If I have the time and resources available I will also showcase additional pages for a more original magazine spread.
