The Preliminary task was the first assignment we were assigned where we had to create a cover and content page targeting our school- LGS P5. This will prove useful to us as by the end of our AS Media portfolio as we will be able to compare how much we've improved from our first attempt. I faced many challenges during this task as I struggle with apps like Photoshop and media is a completely new subject for me, but it still proved to be a fun activity.
I started my preliminary task with initial design sketches of how I wanted my final product to look like. As I'm not that experienced with the codes and conventions of magazines and am also inexperienced with Adobe Photoshop, I decided to go with something basic for my first project.
This is my final cover and content page of the preliminary task. To view the details, please click on the PDF file given below.
Below is a time-lapse of me editing the cover and content page on Adobe Photoshop.
The preliminary task is like a guideline or much like the starting force driving me towards a successful end product. Sitting in class, our teacher mentioned the achievement and pride we all would feel comparing the first product we created to the last one; our end magazine. The preliminary allowed me to evaluate what existing knowledge and skills I had regarding not only ‘what a magazine is?’ but also how I operate a camera, even if I used an iPhone due to the unavailability of a camera, my natural sense of lighting and depth of field and my ability to think of ideas and themes within a short deadline. The task was like a very brief summary of what we would have to take on for the rest of our foundation portfolio as it encompassed every process from the making of design sketches, making use of effective props, conducting a short photoshoot and editing and final compilation of the preliminary magazine product. It also allowed me to assess my strengths and weaknesses before delving into the journey of creating my final magazine.
