The mask and crown I had created were one of the two main props I had presented in my magazine. Taking into account that my idea revolved around the concept of King of Diamonds vs King of Hearts, I had the idea of creating a crown out of a deck of cards from which I extracted the heart and diamonds along with the kings and queens to subtly point towards the thematic concept behind my shoot. The mask also carries forward this theme and has the underlined meaning of a man hiding his true identity under a mask and being torn between two separate identities, one beneficial and one destructive.
Creating the headpiece was one of my major achievements in the production of my final magazine. From carefully folding each and every separate rose petal, glueing them all together, structuring the headpiece, burning my fingertips off trying to completely put it all together, it was a journey I wouldn't mind going through again. I feel like the headpiece encaptures my theme discussed above perfectly and is a prop that attracts the audience's eye and makes them think about the story behind the photo. It was a very lengthy yet rewarding project. There are even a few easter eggs like the Cupid card at the top depicting a similar yet drastically different characteristic of the two kings. The Rubix cube points towards the intellect and the cunning/sharp mind of the King of Diamonds. While the range of flowers is related to the nature of the King of Hearts.
