The summer of 329 brought a bizarre storm to the western shores of Elysium. It behaved similarly to a hurricane only it lasted for several weeks, didn't move and, if you believe the stories, spat out all manner of bizarre and frightening monsters. Unicorns who dared to venture close can confirm that strange beasts emerged from the gale and are now beginning to pop up all around Elysium.
These 'Invasive Dragon Species' are an obtainable unlock for players wishing to play as a dragon in addition to a unicorn! There are several sub-species to choose from amongst these strange creatures who have no clear memory of their home worlds. These dragons are also new monsters for players to encounter and potentially face in battle.
Members who participated in our Arcana Maelstrom event received strange coins from the Titans they aided in the storm. These coins could be exchanged for a free starter dragon to do with as they pleased.
For newer players or those who missed out event, they may still earn a coin from one of the titans by completing a variety of missions! Missions vary in difficulty and will reward players with different levels of coins determining markings and colors players may use for their custom designs.
Additionally, players may encounter wild dragons out in the wilds of Elysium. After the last few years, certian species have settled in particular areas so if you're looking to befriend a certain type, be sure you're looking in the right place! Below is a list of the area's our invasive dragons can most commonly be found in:
Kulos - Old Gate, Flame Expanse, Hissing Sands
Aquadylia - Blooming Territories, Lake Nokotara (always near water)
Tonitruums - Old Gate, Lake Nokotara, Ruined Coast
Alatus - Veiled Rift, Ruined Coast, End Provence
Just like any other claimable character, players will have to convince wild dragons to ally with them. This is similar to our existing claim system for wild unicorns but comes with additional dangers. Some of these dragon species see unicorns as potential prey so do you best to convince them that being friends is the better option. Otherwise, encounters with them may result in battles!
Q: So what can I do with my dragon?
A: Anything you want! Think of them just like your unicorn character just...a dragon instead!
Q: Do I have to buy an item to have a dragon?
A: You actually can't even if you wanted to! Dragons can be unlocked by completing Titan Missions or by finding a Wild Dragon and claiming it.
Q: I want to make my dragon a leader character! Can I do that?
A: You sure can! Players have two options for doing so (TW: one is a little gruesome). The first option players would be to first claim a dragon through their unicorn lead. After that you may use an Additional Leader unlock to make them their own leader! From there they can leave the company of the lead unicorn, Your second option would be to have you dragon 'take over' the unicorns herd. Perhaps they chase them off or...perhaps your former leader becomes your dragons lunch D:
Q: Why would I want a lead dragon and what are the differences?
A: Purely player choice! If unicorns aren't your thing than players are more than welcome to opt for a dragon character to explore Elysium! Dragon characters will experience a slightly different game as their goals and lifestyles are rather different than a unicorn. Players wishing to play as a dragon will find that our play style is slightly more combat based with options for your lead dragon to go on 'hunts' and claim territories as they navigate this foreign landscape. Lead dragons will still have encounters and side quests but their encounters will be with other wild dragons rather than unicorns. Players may attempt to claim these encountered dragons just like you would a unicorn herd.
Q: What is a group of Kulos/Alatus/Tonitruum/Aquadylia's called?
A: A group of Kulos is referred to as a Siege.
A group of Alatus is referred to as a Wake.
A group of Tonitruums is referred to as a Soar.
A group of Aquadylia's is referred to as a Bask.
Q: What sort of attacks can these dragons make?
A: Good questions! All of our invasive dragons have their own strains of elemental magic at their disposal but also have melee attacks available to them. They can all be found in detail in our Dragon Battle Book.
Just like our unicorn characters, Dragons obtained by players can be bred! To breed 2 dragons they should be written or drawn about spending time together. Players should be sure to make a note in the artist comments that the submission is a breeding proof so mods know to process it accordingly.
All dragon species lay between 1-3 eggs in a clutch. The number of eggs laid will be RNG'd and presented to players in a mod response. Similarly to unicorn foals, mods will also include any rolled traits for the resulting hatchlings. These will be things like their magic level, type or any uncommon - rare traits they may have inherited from their parents.
There isn't a set breeding season for dragons but some may be mindful of the season! Hatchlings are sensitive to the weather and eggs laid during cold times may fail if they aren't kept properly warm. Eggs laid during cold seasons will face a chance of failing to incubate. The following are the potential fail rates:
Spring: 0% chance of failure
Summer: 0% chance of failure
Fall: 15% chance of failure
Winter: 40% chance of failure
While like dragon species are more likely to breed to one another, crossbreeding can occur. Rather uncommon, these species can cross with one another but with limitations in place. The biggest limiting factor for our dragons is size. Smaller species attempting to cross with larger ones will often times find that the breeding fails. While similar species of roughly the same size may have more success. Some players may be tempted to cross breed their dragons in order to obtain a certain species with a non-native magic strain. HOWEVER! Crossbreeding weakens magic so even if you manage to breed a Tonitruum dragon with fire magic, it will be a weaker level than what its parents had. Note that dragons will not hybridize appearance wise. Chicks born from crossbreeding will develop into one body type or another.
The following crossbreeding chances and results below are written out assuming that the first listed dragon species is the mother while the second listed species is the father.
Aquadylia sub types (scaled, crested and maned) can interbreed without issue. Which traits they inherit however will vary.
