BEWARE
Fake Texts & Screenshots
#MyExDidit
We all know of the infamous Anna Delvey, of Inventing Anna fame. Let's take a break from Elizabeth and talk about how we would protect ourselves if Anna showed up in Tampa, FL. Here is what we would do:
Let's Say Anna Shows Me a Screenshot of a Text Message....
Could this be a doctored fake? We would ask Anna to see the actual text message, not just the screenshot
If we get to see the actual text conversation on her phone (not a screenshot), do we see just the sender's name, or do we get to see their actual phone number?
If we see the name but not the number, we are aware that anyone can save any number under any name on their phone! So we would ask to see the actual number
If we finally get to see an actual number in a real text conversation (not a screenshot), now we would Google that number
If we cannot find it connected to the person it is supposed to be from, we get very cautious about believing the contents
If Anna tells us that the person created a fake number to text Anna, now we are EXTREMELY cautious. Because essentially, there is no way to verify what is true. It is even possible that Anna crated that number to text herself. Right? Right.
Stay safe.
Now What if Anna Shows Me a Picture...
Could this be a photoshopped fake?Â
We would ask to see where it came from, i.e, the source email, app, etc
We would want to play around and see that the email or app is "live" & not a fake screenshot
Recall that even attorney's emails can be faked, as discussed in Evidence of Fraud
If needed, we would call the said person to verify that the screenshot or pic or video is real
Stay safe
But as always remember that #MyExDidit and #DontBelieveMyCourtRecordsÂ
Stay safe
