School Rules and Regulations
Discipline Procedures
Ekamai International School aims to promote a wholesome school environment where each child will develop self-discipline and self-control. To attain self-discipline, we believe students must understand the importance of choices and the results of those choices. Students who choose to demonstrate acceptable behaviors will be rewarded. Students who choose inappropriate behaviors will be choosing negative consequences.
Students are expected to abide by these guidelines and parents are expected to fully support these guidelines.
PROCEDURES AND CONSEQUENCES
Each discipline case will be assessed on its own merits and in light of t the relevant evidence. The Student Handbook will be consulted by the administration to decide what level of discipline to apply. The relevant disciplinary and intervention measures will be determined by taking into account the student's age, maturity, prior disciplinary history (previous occurrences of misconduct and disciplinary measure(s) imposed for such misconduct), and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Parents are encouraged to participate fully in the disciplinary procedure.
CLASSROOM
Classroom management is the responsibility of the teacher, therefore a classroom discipline plan is developed and posted in the classroom to maintain order. The classroom discipline plan includes a focus on the following student behaviors:
Respect Self
Respect Others/Respect Authority
Respect Property
A copy of the classroom discipline plan is submitted to the Section Principal.
A copy of the classroom discipline plan and the School Discipline Procedures should be sent home to parents/guardians for signature.
Classroom infractions fit into two categories:
Academic - no homework, missing materials, incomplete assignment, etc.
Behavior -class disruptions, inappropriate behavior, uniform infractions, tardies, etc
Reported infractions are tallied per quarter by the homeroom teacher, and noted on each student's report card under "Citizenship Points"
OUTSIDE OF THE CLASS
When students are not under the direct supervision of their teachers but are found to not follow school rules will be redirected by teachers, staff, or supervisors to the homeroom teacher. The first warning will serve as a reminder, and students will be counseled by their homeroom teachers. If students receive a third warning, the homeroom teacher will send a referral to the Section Principal.
DISCIPLINE REFERRAL
Discipline referral is made by a teacher to refer a student who needs disciplinary action.
The teacher shall apply the classroom discipline and may refer to the following persons when needed:
Homeroom teacher: The homeroom teacher will talk to the student and may contact parents as necessary. Incident reports and logs/notes of warning will be kept as reference for future referral.
Grade-level leader: When minor behavioral infractions take place and can't be handled by the teacher anymore, the role of the GLL comes in. The grade-level leader handles the situation and if it is out of control, the discretion to call for parent conference with the principal shall be done.
Supervisor: Ask the help of the supervisor to take the students out of the room when disrupting the class and take the student to the Guidance Counselor. (The incident should be reported to the homeroom teachers. - Refer #1)
The Counselor may handle the following: tardies, absences, teasing, inattentiveness to classes, disruption, not following behavioral expectations, not doing work (attitude/motivation), health concerns (sleep, eating, etc.), peer relations, lying/cheating, loss of relatives, others.
Principal: If the minor infractions turn excessive and highly affect academic and citizenship performance, the student shall be referred to the section principal for immediate action. The principal has the discretion to do the following to the offenders:
3rd offense = reprimand, parent conference, determination of consequences.
Repeat offenders = in or out of school suspensions; detentions
SEVERE OFFENSES: parent conference, determination of in or out of school suspensions or detention or denial of registration for the next school year.
