After-School

Ekamai International School offers various programs that boost students' potential to develop and stimulate intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth outside the classroom walls. This  encourages team-building, emphasizing leadership, commitment, excellence, and communication.

We aim to foster a positive student culture on campus through collaboration with students, parents, and teachers to ensure that everyone is academically focused while engaged in a dynamic, challenging, and safe learning environment.

Being a member of an EIS athletic team is the fulfillment of an early ambition for many students.  The attainment of this goal carries with it certain responsibilities that must be upheld.  A great athletic tradition is not built overnight; it takes hard work of many people over many years.  As a member of an interscholastic team at EIS, you are charged to create and maintain a tradition of success with integrity.

Our goal is to win with HONOR and CLASS.  We desire to win, but only with the proper attitude, approach and emphasis.  Such tradition is worthy of the best efforts of all concerned.  Over the years, our teams have achieved great success in tournament competition.  Many teams and individuals have won championships, honors and awards, both academically and athletically.

It will not be easy to maintain such a great athletic tradition.  When you wear an EIS uniform, we assume that you not only understand our outlook on athletics, but are also willing to assume the responsibility that it entails.  However, the contributions you make should be a satisfying accomplishment to you and your family.

1. RESPONSIBILITIES TO YOURSELF: The most important of these responsibilities is to broaden yourself and develop strength of character.  You owe it to yourself to get the greatest possible good from your school experiences.  Your academic studies, your participation in other extracurricular activities as well as in sports, prepare you for your life as an adult.

2. RESPONSIBILITY TO YOUR SCHOOL:  Another responsibility you assume as a team member is to your school.  EIS cannot maintain its position of having an outstanding school unless you do your best in whatever activity in which you take part.  By participating in athletics to the maximum of your ability while maintaining high standards of discipline and integrity, you are contributing to the reputation of the school.

You assume a leadership role when you are on an athletic team.  The student body and members of the EIS community know you.  You are on stage with the spotlight on you.  The student body, EIS community and other communities judge our school by our conduct and attitudes, both on and off the field.  Because of this leadership role, you can contribute to school spirit and community pride.

3. RESPONSIBILITY TO OTHERS:  As a team member, you also bear a heavy responsibility to your family.  When you have lived up to all your commitments, that you have practiced with great enthusiasm, and you have played the game to the best of your ability, you will have earned self-respect, your teammate’s respect, and your family can be justly proud of you.  The younger students are watching you.  They will copy you in many ways.  By always carrying yourself with integrity and dignity you will set a positive example for them. Do not let them down.

ATHLETIC PHILOSOPHY

The student activities department is dedicated to interscholastic activities as a vital component of EIS education.  Athletics will be a positive learning experience for our students if they recognize that they may achieve their highest personal potential only by embracing a lifestyle dedicated to competition, integrity, and self-discipline.  In addition, selection to a team is both an honor and a privilege, and as such, carries responsibilities commensurate with leadership roles.  As leaders and as very visible representatives of EIS, all athletes have the obligation to represent themselves in an exemplary manner.

We want our students to be recognized for the good in which they accomplish.  As such, athletes must be made aware of the results of their inappropriate actions, which would be detrimental to themselves and those they represent.  They must realize that decisions and consequences are part of learning responsibility.  Dishonest, unsportsmanlike behavior and the use of controlled substances cannot and will not be tolerated.  This written policy will be administered fairly but strictly.

ATHLETICS OUTCOMES:

The students will learn:

4. To improve – Continued improvement is essential to       success.  As an athlete, you must establish a goal and

you must continually try to reach that goal.  Try to better

yourself in the skills involved and those characteristics

      set forth as being desirable.

5. To enjoy athletics – It is necessary for athletes to enjoy

participation, to acknowledge all of the personal rewards

to be derived from athletics and to give sufficiently of

themselves in order to preserve and improve the program.

6. To develop desirable personal health habits – To be an

active, contributing citizen, it is important to obtain a high

degree of physical fitness through exercise and good health   habits, and to develop the desire to maintain this level of

physical fitness after formal competition is completed.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:

A.  EIS Code of conduct:  All students trying out for EIS team will be given a copy of the athletics student handbook.  Each parent and athlete is required to read the handbook and certify that they understand the athletics department rules, code of conduct and policies.  All athletes must submit the signed consent form.

B. School Attendance and Suspension:  All participants require Regular school attendance.  Students absent from school any part of the day of a game or practice shall not participate on that day unless excused by the administration.  The student is expected to be in school the morning after an event.  Students suspended from school shall not be allowed to practice or participate in contests while on suspension.  If suspended a second time the student will be asked to leave the team.

   Citizenship Points:  20 points

   Attendance Points:  20 points

C.  Scholastic Eligibility:  In order to participate on an athletic team, students who will be representing the school must be in good academic standing by earning good passing grades and behaving appropriately.  The minimum grade point average is 2.00 (this will be based on the grade point average from the quarter prior to the AISAA season).

C.  Equipment:  In the case of athletics, athletes will be issued the best possible equipment.  Each athlete will assume responsibility for this equipment and will be asked to pay for lost or damaged items.  Equipment issued by a coach or equipment manager shall be worn only when participating in contests or practice.  No equipment shall be taken without the written consent of the coach or equipment manager.

D.  Travel to and from games:  All participants are required to travel to and from all competitions with school provided transportation.  Students may return home from competitions on their own ONLY with special permission from the Athletic Director/Coordinator and in the company of their parent/parents.  The penalty for use of cars will be the suspension of the player from participation in games or practices until the issue is dealt with by the Administration.

E.  Grooming and dress:  Appearance, expression and actions always influence people’s opinions of athletes, the team and the school.  Once you have volunteered to be a member of a team, you have a choice to uphold the standards.

F.  Language usage:  Vulgar language cannot and will not be tolerated and is just cause for reprimand and if necessary, punitive action.  The English language is to be used at all times.

G.  Spirit of the rules:  In all activities, in practice as well as in contests, students shall adhere to the spirit of the rules of the game.

H.  Role model:  We expect good role modeling from our athletes.  Therefore, all students should support the student behavior code by their daily actions.  Failure to do so may be grounds for referral to the Athletic Director/Coordinator for further action.
