It's great to meet you—digitally! I'm James Brauer, and I'm currently the Director of Graduate Studies at Avila University's School of Education. I'm responsible for launching multiple online graduate level degree programs. Prior to that, I served as the founding school leader/principal of Iowa Connections Academy, a virtual public school that serves students in grades K-12 throughout the state of Iowa. My professional experience also includes having served as an assistant principal in the North Kansas City School District and a special education teacher at USD 500 in Kansas City, KS.
I have a unique insight into education, having served in both public and for-profit education, K-12 and higher-education, alternative, virtual, and traditional education, urban, suburban, and rural settings as a teacher and administrator, with both education and business degrees.
I believe that my educational mishmash gives me a broad perspective on the field, and I look forward to collaborating with you to make an impact!
Artificial intelligence has come a long way, and tools like ChatGPT have captured the excitement and curiosity of educators and students alike. However, with this excitement and fervor comes the need to ensure that these tools are utilized effectively in the classroom. For that reason, I believe that a set of standards would be helpful to guide teachers in their instructional planning. Ultimately, we can can maximize the potential of AI tools while also ensuring that they align with ethical principles and guidelines.
