After deciding the environment I wanted to do, I went straight to collecting references for the vibe/aesthetic/feeling I wanted from my motel. These types of motels have so much personality to me that inserting my own story into one feels natural. At the suggestion of a classmate, I also decided to do two versions of this motel room: a day version and a night version. Again, this got me really excited because I want to rely heavily on lighting for the change in mood.

Within the overall environment, I chose a rifle to have as a hero asset. I put together a mood board and collected references for that as well as ammo to go with it
