Literacy and Visual Programming

Using a Design Thinking model and Writing process to create multi-modal texts

This presentation and this accompanying document show the process followed when adopting a literacy framework, aligning it to a design thinking model and the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies design process. In this case, I used the ‘Seven steps to Writing Success’ as the literacy framework and the Stanford Design school design thinking model. The video below shows the end product and explains the code blocks used in the story.

Story-telling and Digital Technologies

The following two videos show examples of students using Scratch Jr for telling stories within a non-Digital Technologies context. In these examples, students were learning about celebrations around the world. Christmas time was approaching so the students created 'Polar Express'-style journeys visiting different locations and learning about food and culture. These were completed by Year 2 students but are also a terrific example for students in Years 3 and 4.
