Since our members have dusted off their drones we've had an increase in our members reaching out for advice and assistance, which we love by the way.

So we've decided to try having a weekly Q&A session where anyone can jump into Zoom and speak with Paul directly. Paul will be online for the whole hour, poised ready to answer any questions you may have.

You can turn up at any stage in the hour to ask your question, and then leave!

Here is the link to join the session, and it will be the same link each week.

Put it in your diary, and join us if you've got some pressing questions next Wednesday!

From all of us at She Maps.

Tello Drone Quick Fixes.

As with any emerging technology, there will always be a few bugs and problem-solving opportunities along the way. Here are the top FIVE common issues and fixes that we have experienced while teaching:

The Tello won't connect!

Connect it first in the wifi setting area of the tablet. If it won't connect here, toggle the wifi on and off on the tablet and this should work.

Next, open the Tello EDU app (orange one) and it can take up to 60 seconds to connect in this app. If it doesn't connect, then check to make sure the Tello App (black one) is not open in the background.

If it is, close both apps completely, restart the drone and start again. The Tello gets confused if both apps are open and can't connect.

There is wifi interference!

If you are using the black Tello app and have more than a couple of students flying at once you will get wifi interference with this app. This is due to the black Tello App streaming the video from the drone. Use the orange Tello app for classroom flying when using more than two Tellos.

The Tello app (black) is for managing the drone settings, experiencing the excitement of flight and aerial photography, while the Tello EDU app (orange) is for classroom flight with multiple drones and for coding. Although both apps are compatible with Tello, one app should be completely turned off before using the other. The Tello should also be restarted if switching between apps.

The drone does not lift but is tilting?

One motor may be stuck or one or more of the propellors are on the wrong way around.

With the drone camera pointed forward and the battery pointed to you the props have to be mounted the following way in order to lift the drone by spinning and blowing downwards:

· Right Back and Left Front = CW (ClockWise)

· Left Back and Right Front = CCW (CounterClockWise)

Watch how to mount the propeller

Drone flies unstable or is drifting?

Here is a video that explains this a bit more with some tips. Follow these tips first:

- Check that the downward sensors are clean and not covered.

- At startup keep the craft away from strong magnetic fields.

- Make sure the floor is not too shiny or is not a single pattern, and there is sufficient light.

If none of the above work, then do a Re-Calibration of the IMU/Compass and also the CG (Center of Gravity). In the Tello app (black) go to Settings – More – tap the square with the 3 dots. Activate the calibrations manually and follow the instructions in the app. Here is a video that shows you how to do this.

The battery does not charge?

This can be due to a defect battery or a defect or dirty USB cable/plug/port. Try to charge with another USB cable.

When USB cable is connected to the Tello for charging the battery:

1) LED should first blink fast 1x green + 3x red

2) LED blue blinking permanent = charging normally

3) LED solid blue = charging finished

4) LED Blue blinking 7x short + 1x long = defect battery

When USB cable connected to the Hub for charging the batteries:

1) LED green blinking permanent = charging normally

2) LED solid green = charging finished

3) LED solid orange = battery waiting for charging

4) LED solid red = defect battery
