"Alternative therapists use the term holistic to imply that their approach is superior to conventional medicine, but this 'more holistic than thou' attitude is unjustified. Holistic merely means taking a whole person approach to medicine, and conventional doctors will also treat their patients holistically. GPs consider a patient's lifestyle, diet, age, family history, medical backround, genetic information and the results from a variety of tests. If anything, conventional medicine takes a more holistic approach than alternative medicine." (from Edzard Ernst's Trick or Treatment.)
