Wayang Suket Indonesia is made up of members from Indonesia and other countries. Their goal is to preserve and pass down the Javanese tradition of Wayang Suket, or straw puppets, and introduce this Indonesian cultural heritage to the world.

Wayang Suket Indonesia offers various activities and events that aim to preserve the tradition of straw wayang puppets, such as straw puppets performances of folk stories, workshops of straw puppets building, as well as exhibitions. The troupe also invites artists from different regions of Indonesia and other countries to collaborate on projects that help develop and preserve Indonesian folklores and folk arts.

Wayang Suket Indonesia 由來自印尼和其他國家和地區的成員組成,宗旨為保存並傳承爪哇的「稻草偶」(Wayang Suket)傳統,並引介此印尼文化給全世界。

團隊提供各項稻草製偶、麻製偶相關等傳承活動,例如使用稻草偶講傳統故事的表演、製作稻草偶的工作坊以及展覽,同時也邀請印尼與其他國家、地區的藝術家合作,發展並保存印尼民間故事和藝術的計畫。

  • 偶戲創作及願景 Mission and Vision

Wayang Suket Indonesia is dedicated to preserving Wayang Suket (straw puppets), Indonesian folk stories and other traditional cultures. Yet, regarding their work mode and performance forms, they do not cease to innovate, connect and communicate with contemporary society. In fact, many of their works use sarcasm to make fun of contemporary social, economical and political issues.

The core leader of the troupe, Gaga Rizky, found an interesting phenomenon when interacting with the audiences: for most contemporary audiences, since traditional wayang suket has disappeared from the stage for some time, they actually find it novel. The audiences are curious about the straw puppets, and many of them would ask about the history of this tradition after performances.

Most folklores have various different versions; therefore, the troupe often conduct research from books to reform while ensuring the stories are correct and complete.

Wayang Suket Indonesia 致力保存稻草偶和印尼民間故事等傳統文化,而在工作模式、演出形式等方面,卻不吝嗇於嘗試新事物,並與現代接軌、對話,作品中也常開一些針砭當時社會、經濟和政治議題等玩笑。

在與觀眾的交流中,團隊核心領導人 Gaga Rizky 發現一個有趣的現象:對當代的觀眾來說,因為傳統稻草偶已經消失很長一段時間了,觀眾反而覺得很新奇。他們會對稻草偶感到好奇,很多觀眾在演出結束後,會問起關於這種偶的歷史。

  • 演出規模 Performance Scale


Since its establishment in 2018, Wayang Suket Indonesia has been producing two to three performances with a complete production team annually, as well as presenting 3 to 10 showcases in workshops. Most of their formal productions take place in theatre auditoriums. They have also performed outdoors when being invited to art festivals. Workshops of wayang suket and showcases are mostly held in schools, on the streets and inside art studios.


從 2018 年成立開始,Wayang Suket Indonesia 每年製作兩到三齣具有完整團隊的正式演出,以及三到十齣在工作坊中的小型演出(showcase)。正式演出主要於劇院內,受到藝術節邀請時亦曾在戶外演出。稻草偶製作工作坊和小表演則是在學校、街頭和藝文空間中進行。


  • 國際交流 International Exchange

Though as a troupe that is open-minded and willing to meet the world, Wayang Suket Indonesia has been facing challenges in regard to international exchange. The leader Gaga Rizky mentioned, the troupe received several invitations to tour internationally; however, they were unable to acquire enough funds to cover members’ travel expenses. Consequently, they had to turn down the opportunities.


開放、樂於走出去的 Wayang Suket Indonesia 在國際交流上遇到了許多瓶頸。Gaga Rizky 提及,雖然他們曾獲得出國巡演的機會,然而資金卻沒有和這個機會一起到來。礙於無法籌足團員的旅費,海外巡演只好作罷。
