Lesson aims

  • Obtain an overview of the different sectors of business activity.
  • Understand the nature of business activity in each sector.
  • Understand the impact of sectoral change on business activity.

Task

  1. Compare and contrast the industry sector compositions of three different countries, i.e. low-income country (LIC), a middle-income country (MIC) and a higher-income country (HIC).
  2. Think of some everyday products that you use and imagine their production chain.
  3. What primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary businesses are involved in the production, distribution and marketing of these products?
  4. List the main business activities for each industry sector.
  5. Identify how a change in a specific sector would affect these activities.
