WHAT ARE NPC'S?
Non-player characters, in short, NPCs, are additional characters each player can create to populate the world of Canidale. Instead of belonging to just one person, those characters can be used for roleplays and artworks by any member of the group, as long as they don't stray away from the NPC's description. However, they cannot have standalone canon works. All member-made NPCs are of Rank 3: Noteworthy, and they do not level up their notoriety rank. Players can, however, form relationships with them just like any other player character and use those as relationship proof for Notoriety Levelups.
NPCs age along with the group, and while they can be featured freely in their artworks, only the staff members and the character creator can create plots that could bring some major changes to NPC's description. NPC characters cannot be romanced, get pregnant or give birth, or be physically or mentally harmed (drastically; you can still get in a fight with an NPC character, but you can't, e.g., bite their leg off).
Any artwork or literature featuring an NPC must include a player character. NPCs cannot have standalone canon works.
A member can submit one NPC for reviewing per month (cooldown resets on the first day of the month).
If the application gets rejected, it still counts as a submission. The staff will provide exact reasons as to why it was declined, and then a player is welcome to try again next month with an updated version of the app (unless stated otherwise).
NPCs are not subjected to Activity Checks and do not take up faction slots. They stay in the group and can still interact with others even if their creator leaves the group. If you're leaving the group and desire for the NPC to no longer be used, please contact one of the staff members.
FOR CANINES
1. Graphic version of the application for canine NPC should include a flat colored full-body of the character featured on a background of their faction alignment with an additional "NPC" mark.
All NPC dedicated backgrounds can be found on our Deviantart group in the resources folder (link) or on our Discord server in channel #resources.
2. Fill out the form listed below with a description of the character. The overall written part of the application should be at least 300 words long.
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Breed:
Faction:
Job:
Personality and backstory: (how the character usually acts and behaves)
Where can they usually be found in Canidale?:
What do they do for the community, and how can they be interacted with?:
Other:
The text should be pasted directly in the description of the Deviantart submission.
3. Explain what makes this character a good addition to the world of Canidale! We are looking particularly for characters that many players could interact and form relationships with, building a community and offering multiple plotting possibilities.
The staff team has the right to refuse the application when one of the criteria listed above.
FOR NON-CANINE SPECIES
In the world of Canidale, dogs are the only animals that can achieve a humanlike level of sentience. Every other animal species acts just like their real-world counterparts, and their ways of communication with our canine characters are no different from how humans can interact with other creatures - through a series of gestures and voice cues, something that can be taught or recognised.
While there are no limitations in the size of the animal, it should be of a domesticated species living amongst humans (household pets and farm animals) or wild animals accepted and generally tolerated in human settlements (park animals, squirrels, ducks, pigeons, mice, raccoons). Animals that could be a potential threat to humans or are generally unfit for urbanized environments (wolves, bears, deer) are not accepted.
All species should be native to North America, with the exception of exotic pets (lizards, parrots, tortoises), which can be kept by humans inside their houses.
! Companions achieved at Notoriety Rank 4 don't need their separate NPC application and should be added to your character's visual reference instead.

Description of a non-canine NPC should be more focused on the behavior and habits of the animal, rather than their thoughts, dreams, goals, etc.
The only exception to that rule would be when creating a human NPC.
Make sure to include info about how the animal feels about dogs (does it like them, is it scared of them, or maybe tries to fend them off its territory?) and the area where they can usually be found in Canidale.

NPC applications should be submitted through our Discord ticket system.
