Notoriety is known to be a reputation mechanism; the higher your level, the more recognizable you are, regardless of whether it is positive or negative.
Whether you take the Renowned or Notorious route in the long run, there are numerous benefits to leveling up as opposed to staying a Nobody. For one, you unlock the ability to claim a property or house on our official map! You also get to spread rumors about your character, as well as eventually have your own animal companion!
You aren’t required to level up, however, you’ll miss out on numerous benefits and opportunities, because even in major story points, higher notoriety characters impact the story more. Plus, your dog could experience character development in this way!
Nobody
Level 1
Every character starts out as a nobody
No one knows who you are yet! This is the moment to make an impression, though you're still lacking confidence to venture far away from your neighbourhood just by yourself...
Moving up requires
2 pieces of canon work (collab, rp, short story, or solo art)
Proof of 2 acquaintances total
So-Called
Level 2
Some see you and recall your face or name. Does not matter much, as you are forgettable and many will pass you by without a second thought. You met some dogs who became your acquaintances.
Achieving level 2 unlocks new perks: Home Sweet Home
So you have set your first steps in Canidale and got to know the local community. About time you found a cozy nook for yourself!
Now you can claim a house slot for your dog on the map. To learn more, visit the "Home Sweet Home" post in #tech-dog-den channel on Discord.
Moving up requires
6 new pieces of canon work (collab, rp, short story, or solo art which were not redeemed previously)
Proof of 1 friend/opposer total
Proof of 4 acquaintances total
Noteworthy
Level 3
You are finally noteworthy! Some are talking about you and see you as important. Others may look down on you. It depends on how well you have interacted with others.
Achieving level 3 unlocks new perks: The prompt of gossip
Dogs begin to spread rumours about you. The gossip can be either good or bad. It depends on how well things went. Some may simply talk down on you because they know your name.
Now that some know you, you are welcome to join the Canine Council if interested. Though some dogs prefer to stay away from politics. Read more about joining the council here.
Your character may have heard of the rumors going around in town. Choosing to interact with them grants the following bonus to art and lit:
+1 Relationship points with the dog(s) the rumor is about.
- Multiple characters may interact with the same rumor.
- The bonus only applies once per rumor per character. (For example, Character A does the rumour of Character B, and Character C is still able to complete the rumour of Character B)
Rumors can be found in the #canidale-rumors channel on Discord. Any rank dog may interact with the rumors. To post your own your character needs to be at least at Notoriety Lvl 3 - Noteworthy.
Moving up requires
15 new pieces of canon work (collab, rp, short story, or solo art which were not redeemed previously)
Proof of 3 friends/opposers total
Proof of 1 best friend/enemy total
Proof of 8 acquaintances total (has to be at least one from every faction)
Established
Level 4
You have become quite popular, haven´t you? Others now seek you out, and most will know your name without even meeting you. You can always help them out and build a reputation as a goodie-two-shoes. Or abuse some naive dogs and take advantage. You might not lead the popularity competition just yet, but they know who you are.
Achieving level 4 unlocks new perks : Beyond species
You've met many dogs and have become quite a persona in your community. So famous that even other species of animals start noticing you. Perhaps one of them could become your friend?
You can have one small animal (bird, rodent, reptile, etc.) companion now.
The companion can be added to the character's visual app. Please submit a "Character Changes" ticket for approval of the companion.
Every character that reaches Notoriety rank 4 can bond with one animal companion of their choice.
When choosing a companion, consider your dog’s living conditions. Various animals, such as tropical birds and reptiles, could survive only with the assistance of a human who can provide their essentials (eg, Food or a temperature-controlled terrarium for times when they’re not traveling with their canine companion). On the contrary, if your canine is a household pet, its owner might be reluctant to accept a wild animal, such as a rat or squirrel, into their home.
Companion suggestions for different factions:
Pet: Hamster, Guinea Pig, Parrot, Snake, Lizard
Farmstead: Chicken, Duck, Pig, Rabbit, Sheep
Junkyard & Strays: Rat, Squirrel, Raccoon, Frog, Wild birds
Companion rules:
Dogs, wolves, coyotes, foxes, or other canids are not permitted as companions.
Wild animal companions must be native to the Oregon region. (So no Koalas, European badgers, Lemurs, etc.)
Canines communicate with their companions just like with any other animals in the world of Canidale - that is, by a series of gestures, body language, and sounds instead of words.
A character can build a relationship with their companion by featuring it in their submission, just like any other canine character. Only the companion's bonded character earns relationship points for the feature.
WRITTEN APPLICATION
For the written part, fill out the form below and include it in your character’s written application, below the "Other" section.
The companion application has no word count requirements.

Examples

Moving up requires
30 new pieces of canon work (collab, rp, short story, or solo art which were not redeemed previously)
Proof of 9 friend/opposer total
Proof of 3 best friends/enemies total
Proof of 16 acquaintances total (has to be at least one from every faction)
Renowned/Notorious
Level 5
Congratulations! You have unlocked the final level! Your hard work has paid off. You are now a part of the most influential dogs of Canidale. Are you known for bad or good acts? Your life may take a turn depending on which path you choose! Both have perks and cons.
Renowned
If you have more friends than enemies, you are adored. More will come to you and ask for help. Dogs will seek your opinion and take the words to heart. You are known for committing more good deeds than bad ones. Others may try to get to know you just for the sake of hanging out with the famous dog.
Notorious
If you have more enemies than friends, congratulations, everyone hates you. This may seem fun as the journey goes on. Dogs will enjoy mischief with you, or you may have fooled a few dogs along the way to get here. Either way, just keep in mind that in a time of need, fewer dogs will be willing to help you out. Perhaps a few nobodies will fall for your trickery.
*Note, status may change if, over time, more friends/enemies are gained*
Achieving level 5 unlocks new perks: Second in command
Everyone in your faction recognizes your face and trusts you enough to let you speak in their name now. You can apply for the rank of Advisor in the Canine Council should you reach the 16 council points requirement.
Upon achieving this level, contact the staff to claim a special Discord emote featuring your character to celebrate this moment.
Notoriety is a way to establish how well-known your character is amongst the town. You can level up your character in different ways. Every canon work, whether it is Art, RP, Collaboration, or a short story.
In order to move a level up, you must send a ticket from our "#file-a-ticket" channel on Discord to the group with proof of completing the given tasks.
You do not need to send a ticket for Friendship levels, only have your tracker/proof ready when you send in a request for notoriety level up.
Click on the template to open it in another window as click "File >> Create a copy" to acquire your own copy of the template.
If you're using the official template you don't need to attach links to every submission for your rank up ticket. Just simply link up the Rank-Up Template!
Pieces that can help you level up need to be canon work. It describes art that is not in the misc or meme folder.

It must be about something related to the progress of your character and their life in Canidale.
You’re more than welcome to draw a scene from the past. But we encourage more current story lines.

If it is an RP, each character must have written at least 700 words total (if you add up each reply).
You must include the word count either in the description of the piece or within the document.
It must be about something related to the progress of your character and their life in Canidale.
You’re more than welcome to write or roleplay a scene from the past. But we encourage more current story lines.
It cannot be a meme or a MISC literature work.
Extra
Remember, when you're unsure about your representation, the best choice is to simply show the concept to the character's owner. They know best where the boundaries lie of how their character should look or act like!
Any canon work proof must be submitted to either the Discord art/lit/RP channels or the DeviantArt gallery. They cannot be linked from other sites (Toyhouse, Instagram, etc.).
If you're doing a solo piece (whether artwork or literature) featuring somebody else's character - make sure to ask for their consent beforehand!
If you use your own characters in a solo piece, it will count as canon work as long as you meet the art and literature requirements.
Each submission should have links to each featured character’s application and all creators' profiles (if roleplay/collab or featured in a solo) posted in the description.
In order for a submission to count as a canon work for notoriety rankups, the character's owner must have partaken into creation of the submission (Gifted pieces that meet the requirements of canon art can be used only for relationship points).
