 Spring Cleaning 

It is early in the year, but summer is close. Thus, it might be lovely to clean your space. The snow has melted away. During the winter, people were careless. Plenty of trash was hidden below the snow, only to be covered with more layers. Which is why it might be a good idea to help recover the place. While people are busy sweeping the streets clean from pebbles, perhaps you could help them out? Do some good for your humble town.

✨ PETS ✨

You either have the easiest or hardest job. Do you wish to help your owner clean the house? Perhaps there is something hidden in your garden that got buried when the snow came. Either way, now it  is time to collect the skeletons in your backyard. You can help your owner in your own way or rest while the people are doing their jobs.

🌾  FARMSTEAD 🌾

The fields are cleaner. Sheep are once more in the open. You are back at working heavier as a shepherd or herder. Hunting season is on, so hunting dogs will surely be occupied with their people in the woods. Ratters will be busy as ever, while the guard dogs can finally rest. With the seasons warming up, fewer strays will be around. Though, all the farm dogs are the same at the end. Smelling as dirt and manure as the people began to cultivate their fields. Stay away from the tractors, one might say. In the meanwhile, perhaps help plant some flowers. Is there any mess lingering around?

🪶 STRAYS 🪶

Streets are being swept by local humans. You can either be brave and help clean the town, or try to avoid them. The suburbs are more keen on collecting their own place. While city streets are filled with people more often. They leave food behind for anyone to grab, and tend to be focussed on themselves.

🌧️ JUNKYARD DOGS 🌧️

The junkyard has its own world. Not really focussed on the pets or farm dogs, they can fix their own place. Perhaps some new treasure pops up in the junk. Or you wish to segregate and clean your favourite spot. You can both scavenge the area for goods or try to help to tidy up your pack’s location. Despite it being a junkyard, it might help to make the place more appealing, no?

Any dog can help clean their home, or fix something on the street. This will be considered  an act of community service. Despite not being in the council, you will be rewarded with attention.

Illustrate or Write up a scene that portrays these prompts to complete the MSE. It can be either your character tidying the place up, helping clean the streets, aso.

Weather Broadcast!

Snow is now gone, the grass is growing back thicker than last month. Instead of being small flower buds, they are now actual flowers. Leaves have yet to form. Nature might be coming back, but the weather is still low. Spring rain comes in and the outdoors is full  with the wind. Mornings are filled with thick fog after the rainy nights. Besides the air feeling moist , it is mostly good. Or perhaps more of a breeze in contrast to the winter.

Guidelines:

This MSE can be done as a part of a collaboration, general solo art, roleplay or even literature! If art, it must be fully coloured and at least a half body with a background. The background doesn't need to be detailed but it must at least have some effort put into it.

 Hurricane Warning

Slowly, but surely, the nights are getting shorter by the day the the temperature gradually rising. The crops planted in early Spring bore fruit and the town is busy with harvesting and processing the freshly picked fruits, vegetables and other crops like wheat or corn. Town busy preparing for the coming Summer and the tourist season, stacking up on supplies and finishing up the winter wrap up, unbeknownst to a nearing danger. A glooming shadow is creeping its way closer to the peaceful land of Canidale, casting an alarming darkness over the streets and farmlands. A storm is coming, dark thunderclouds threatening the harvest, and the danger of flood. Canidale issued a hurricane warning to raise awareness and to prevent any avoidable damage to the people and their animals.

✨ PETS ✨

You have the luxury to watch the showering rain from the comfort of a cozy and dry room. While your owners might have to deal with an occasional blackout and the possible leaks letting rainwater pour into the less secured rooms in the house, unless you are on duty, you probably have a pleasant memory of the events, having your owner shut in with you, forced to spend time together. less lucky is your fate should you work with the police or firemen, sparing no effort to aid those in need, remove fallen trees from the roads or assist rescue operations.

🌾  FARMSTEAD 🌾

Chaos reigns, all the farmland animals are in a frenzy, terrified of the raging storm. Shuttles are smashing against the walls of the barnhouse, livestock in a craze trying to run away from the thundering sounds and your owner out in the pouring rain, chasing down escapees or dipping their buckets deep into the pool formed in the barn or stables, trying to save what can be saved. You need to assist them in their misery, chase down and shepherd home any runaway animals, chase away hungry predators here for a free meal or get rid of the critter swarm trying to find shelter from the storm in the house.

🪶 STRAYS 🪶

You are either one of those lucky bastards who knows a safe spot which keeps your paws dry, or more likely, soaked wet on the open streety, trying to claim some area for yourself where you can wait out the end of the storm. For those unbothered by the free shower and willing to shed down month of dirt and smell, you can find narrow alleys protected from the rushing wind to enjoy a bathtime, There are plenty of stillwater gathered in street holes for you to be able to even be picky. While some are finally having a refreshing shower, they might wanna use the commotion and the limited visibility to cause some mischief, steal some food from the ruined stalls and shops or scare peaceful pets, finding their way into basements or backyards.

🌧️ JUNKYARD DOGS 🌧️

The hurricane is not going easy on your makeshift community either, heavy metal garbage is lifted up into the air and tossed around the place you just finished tidying up. Lower areas are flooded and a smaller system of rivers and lakes is being established on the Junkyard. Due to the metal salvage lightning bolts are gathering all above the property and striking near the heavy junk. No car or metal shelter is safe and better be avoided unless you wish for a short life. Better look for some non-metal shelter and highground to wait out the end of the hurricane, and make sure to not let your smaller mates drown.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to reach Canidale in the following few days. An Enhanced Risk has been issued for parts of the region, alarming citizens for the coming hurricane. The main threats will be minor twisters, very large hail, and damaging winds. Additionally, heavy rain and flash flooding is likely across portions of the lowlands.

 WEEKEND HIKE

As the inpredictable weather gets milder and milder by the day, families and all who call Canidale their home are more eager to plan for a days long hiking trip near the National Conservation Area surrounding the town from the west. Lush and deep wood and a well maintained hiking trail are offering a quiet and refreshing experience for the many who wish to leave the busy town life behind for a long weekend and let their mind be free from the worries.

✨ PETS ✨

You are one lucky, or unlucky companion, depending on personal preferences, who got the chance to accompany your owner on a weekend hike! Sharing a tent, swimming in the river, chasing down squirrels and barking up trees are all what you need to do, as you, just like your human, are on a vacation. Just make sure to not get chills at night, next to the crackling fire hearing all sorts of new sounds.

🌾  FARMSTEAD 🌾

What gives, dragging you away from your precious land and duties, you find yourself in a foreign land, filled with foreign animals. You might exhale a curse as now you are stuck with a few more, aimlessly wandering on a trail, without a job to do, or embrace this opportunity to learn something new and chase down some wild boars. What is the difference between them and a pig, after all?

Many people abandoning their homes and business for a precious few days means one thing for you: You shall have the whole town to yourself, if you wish to stay behind. Prime opportunity to do some mischief, break into the foodstore, chase down some abandoned farm animal or get to places, which are usually complicated to infiltrate.

People focusing their efforts to gather food and pack them into carryable packages means one thing: It is time for a raid. There is nothing like an easy earned bite, as the self-important, but often worthless lap warmers are way too occupied with some bugs or birds. Mind the bears tho, and those guardian dogs who are not all bark, but bite.

Weather Broadcast!

June is the start of the classic summer holiday break with temperatures beginning to warm up in Canidale. The first month of the Summer hould be dry, for most of central and southeast area of the region. While no major heat waves are predicted, most days are expected to read near to a few degrees above normal. Temperatures averaging on a rather warm scale and there is barely any rainfall to speak of, while you can expect to enjoy 11 hours of sunshine each day.

Character Creation is Now Closed!
We have received a handful of new characters, so it will take a few days to look through them all. You will be notified of any needed changes or if you can just go ahead and submit to the gallery, via the note you sent.
Main Story Questline
Things have been a bit slow in Spring, however with the full return of the head admin, the long awaited Main Story Quest will start sometime in the Summer!

You can hardly believe your eyes. All the snow is beginning to melt away and the temperatures have begun to rise to a comfortable degree. The worst of the freezing months are behind you. Although there might still be occasional cold nights, Canidale is finally entering the spring season! While the weather starts to get warmer, it’s the time for the local wild animals to either come out of hibernation or give birth to new babies. The human and dog residents of Canidale have taken it upon themselves to watch after the animals in the local forest and ensure their safety, although some factions take the task less seriously than others. Life is quite literally blooming once more in the cozy town of Canidale. It’s also the season for pollen, so be mindful of allergies!

PETS

It’s finally spring! Your owner has decided to volunteer at the local animal rescue organization. It is nice to be out in the great outdoors. You follow them around the forest and the facility, helping animals, taking note of their numbers, and watching animal babies. How adorable! Hopefully, the babies don’t imprint on you. Then again, who could say no to a sweet little fawn?

FARMSTEAD

Spring is the season when work finally starts to pick up again for the farm dogs! This time, you’re tasked with keeping watch over the expansive forest with your owner in the local forest watch booth. You can almost see everything up here. How hard could watching the forest be? It’s just like watching sheep! Let’s hope the height isn’t too daunting for you. What critters can you spot from up there?

JUNKYARD

 While other factions are either helping with baby animals or rescue organizations, the Junkyard has decided to do something a bit more unique: snail racing. That’s right! You and a few other Junkyarders pick out some snails from the forest, paint their shells with natural-made dye, and create a small racetrack in the middle of the junkyard using the scraps lying around. Place your bets! Whose snail will be the prime champion of them all?

STRAYS

 As the warmth from the sun seeps into your fur, you decide to take a calm walk to the cliffs overlooking the sea. It’s finally warm enough to not worry about frost chilling your paws. The birds are returning from their migration, and from the cliff, you can see them all flocking to the bay to nest in the cliff sides. Pretty romantic view, isn’t it? Oh… Did that bird just poop on your head?

You can participate in any faction’s prompt provided that there’s at least one dog from that faction featured in your submission.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST ADDED

As we were checking the first batch of opening applications, we noticed that there have been certain types of mistakes reappearing more often than others. We realise that with too much information to take in at once, it may be easy to miss something, therefore we have prepared a special checklist to help you with last minute proof checking your application right before submitting. Just simply open the sheet and go through the boxes one by one. If you manage to check all of them, there's a 99% chance your application will ace the review ;)

The checklist can be found on our website under the tab “Character creation”. We strongly advise using it not only for new players but also members bringing in their additional characters! All credit goes to Rubynoot for the checklist. 

NO-AI RULE EXPANSION

In last month’s update, we introduced a rule against AI-generated content (both art and writing). Dogs of Canidale is not the right place to join if you intend to rely heavily on AI or online tools that write for you. We want to expand on the rule a little and explicitly state the consequences if you are caught submitting AI content. The new clarifications can be viewed under Content Rules

Your first offense is a warning and being told to rewrite or redraw the content in your style. 

Your second offense will result in being temporarily banned from submitting any new characters for three months.

Finally, your third and final offense will result in being kicked from Dogs of Canidale. 

We do not tolerate AI-content, so we advise you to break out of the habit if you use AI. This includes tools that “enhance” your writing, such as Grammarly. We do not mind if you ask for writing assistance from a friend or a staff member! In fact, we encourage it if you truly struggle, whether it be due to language difficulties or lack of motivation. 

GUIDE TO PLOTTING-POOCHES

Since we’re going to have a lot of new members joining the server soon, we have decided to add a guideline on how to create and keep posts in the plotting-pooches channel. Make sure to read it before you make your first post. As for members, we kindly ask you to read through the guide as well and update your posts accordingly.

STAFF TEAM CHANGES

Last month, there had been a few changes to the staff team here at Canidale. 

First of all, one of the new admins, fehujii, unfortunately had to leave us due to lack of time and overabundance of other tasks. In the past half year, he helped us bring many updates to life with his amazing writing skills and we’re truly grateful for how he helped us develop Canidale. Goodluck, Fehu!

Second, after her break from admin duties, ArtsofRenQ has decided to entirely step off the team. Her feedback was exceptionally valuable, and we sure will miss it from now on. The good news is— Ren is staying with us as a member, so feel free to still nag her for plotting :>

• Don’t wait until the last moment, submit your Activity Check for the season now!

• You can read about the requirements for the Activity Check submissions here and submit your AC using the form here. 

• Day and night, we’re always waiting for your opinion! Is there something in Canidale that particularly annoys you? Or maybe you have an idea you’d like to see implemented? We may not act on all of those suggestions immediately, but we are certainly reading every single one of them and taking them into account when planning for future updates! • How is that sled race going, teams? As of now, players involved in the sledding contest have just below 3 weeks before the deadline. (20 March) Be sure that you are contacting your teammates regularly and keeping up with your part of the collaboration or roleplay! If, for any reason, you must drop out, please inform your teammates and the staff team sooner rather than later. Communication is key when it comes to large collaborations like these. Please be mindful!

My, how the time flies! Only a year ago we were opening, retracing a long legacy of Canidale, and today here we are, celebrating our thriving community!

In that short year we've seen so much change - people coming and going with the loveliest faces, administration changes with new mods at the wheel, and character stories that have made us laugh, cry, and sometimes even throw our devices across the room - and we have everyone in our community to thank for it!

So to everyone, from our members who have been here since the beginning and before, to our newest, freshest members who have just started their journey, we celebrate you all and our beloved canine group.

Oh no! The rumors say aliens have started kidnapping dogs all around Canidale. Obviously you didn’t believe them. Until one night you saw this creature emerge from the darkness…

Imagine that your character wasn’t born on earth! What kind of alien would they be? A terrrrifying monster who came to take over the earth and eat everyone’s brains? Or maybe a cute, friendly space traveller who decided to stop by and get to know some of the local inhabitants?

Previously on chapter III...

Concerned by the notion of the missing dogs, the canines of Canidale have gathered in the Great Oak Park Amphitheatre to discuss the situation in the meeting of the Canine Council. Led by Farmstead leader Nutella with the help of faction advisors Mango, Wilhelm, and Draco, it focused on gathering clues on what might have happened to Doc and Bane through listening to various testimonies. Places on the stage had successively been taken by Dad, Sage, Small Fry, V, Kalli, Gilly, Wrio, Sparrow, Corvo, Romans, and Honeybun. 

For the most part, the meeting has gone undisturbed, except for the appearance of the Stray, V, who has managed to cause quite the commotion with her frank words regarding the faction’s approach to homeless canines. Her speech prompted the councillors to hold an impromptu vote, upon which the discussion about the case of strays has been postponed until the next meeting.

Once all of the witnesses had spoken, the councillors had a chance to propose their suggestions on what actions should be taken next, and out of those, the majority chose the options to follow the cryptic maps scratched into the floor of Bane’s house.

Soon after the meeting, news of Nutella’s disappearance spread out and the Farmstead faction became frantic. After the recent course of events, it was a fear lingering in their minds, and eventually it turned out to be inevitable. With the border collie mix gone, there were no remaining leaders left in Canidale, which meant that the factions had to start working on their own. It was crucial to balance their efforts between the investigation and keeping everything up in order.

Reja, Autumn, Iroh, Sage, and Stardust, with the help of Pet Corvo and Junkyard Dad, and Small Fry, have taken it upon themselves to examine the mysterious crop circles appearing through the night on various fields across Canidale. Their exploration of the grassy labyrinths has led them to a series of strange-looking metal structures that require closer examination to uncover their true purpose.

In the meantime, Marlo, Iroh, and Sage, with the help of Pet Ranbir, have taken turns helping with the work on Nutella’s farm. They had to face off not only rascal animals, emboldened by the lack of their guardian’s presence, but also mischievous Junkyards looking for an easy snack. At last, the property seemed safe and undisturbed… for now.

Finally, Reja, Iroh, Stardust, Wriothesley, Daisy, and Olive, with the help of Stray V, Pet Molly, and Pet Kalli have taken it upon themselves to determine the source of the strange lights behind the hills. They walked on and on, until the night turned into a day and the glow was no longer visible, and realised that despite the distance covered, they didn’t seem to be any closer. Whatever it was, it must have been really, really far away.

While Farmstead dogs have been taking care of their own business, Junkyard canines have successfully managed to fend off the pests. The derating action was named a great success, mainly thanks to Dad, Kestrel, and Harley’s effort with the extra help of a Stray Soleil and Farmstead Daisy. Their assistance will no doubt be remembered long by the canines of the scrapyard. It was gradually coming into the picture that the Junkyards had started looking up for guidance from a certain dog during their leader’s absence. Ever present for the community, Dad has clearly taken it upon himself to keep the place in order until Doc is back. Unfortunately, the rat infestation has caused a great deal of damage to the scrapyard hideout, which will no doubt take some time to rebuild.

While the other factions have struggled greatly, the life of pets seemed to go on pretty undisturbed. After their brave and quick actions in civil service, the risk of crime getting out of control was no more, and now they apparently had a new police officer to keep everything in order. Eager to greet the new resident, the canines have sought out the Malinois and asked him a few questions. This appeared to not only reveal information about the apparent connections between the hound and missing leader Bane, but also Gale’s clear interest in the vacant spot he has left behind. However, in order to reach his goal, he will have to work hard to earn the respect and trust of the Pets. 

Was it a good first impression? Garlic, Ranbir, V, Corvo, Kalli, or Judas might be able to tell you!

Chapter IV

V’s appearance during the Canine Council meeting has once again roused the discussion about whether or not strays should be given the same privileges as the three renowned factions of Canidale. Strong words may have been said, but they won’t be enough to make a change, not without proper support. Prompted by their colleague, the strays have been given a chance to act. Yet it is up to them to decide what path should be taken.

STRAY PROMPTS:

In order to be eligible for a reward, each piece has to include at least one Stray canine. 

Only for Strays: Completing one of the prompts below will serve as your character’s declaration of adopting a stance. Making a choice will have an impact on the future discussion.

The prompts can be completed multiple times. A character with the largest completion count in one prompt will take the position of the group’s (each prompt represents one group) representative in the future chapters of the story.

Prompt 1: GRASSROOTS ACTIVIST

A notion has reached your ears that the faction dogs despise strays for their lack of activity for the community and think of them as parasites on the town of Canidale. Perhaps you could change their minds by proving that you actually care for the well-being of the citizens? Perform a bottom-up action with a positive outcome. The rat invasion has been tough on Junkyard, and Farmstead canines have to work twice as hard with their leader gone. Go ask around, and maybe if you help enough, dogs will start recognizing who you really are.

Prompt 2: FIERCE REBEL

How dare the comfort-loving faction canines accuse you of being idle when every day of your life has been a fierce fight for survival? You will not allow anyone to refer to you in such a manner. Show them how fierce the strays can be and demand the respect strays deserve. Act up and make appearances in different places, play tricks, and disturb the lazy faction dogs. Remind them that they should think twice before using such words against you again.

Prompt 3: ONCE STRAY, ALWAYS A STRAY

You watch with concern the actions taken by other strays to make themselves more recognizable. It is an idea you oppose, preferring the closure and lack of responsibilities or attachments. Perhaps you simply wish to lay low and not engage in the conflict, or want to advocate for keeping true to what is the essence of being a stray. Continue your solitary life, ignore what is not your business, or prevent other strays’ attempts to impose themselves on faction dogs.

FACTION PROMPTS:

In order to be eligible for a reward, each piece has to include at least one canine from a specified faction.

There is no end goal for prompt completion, however, each submission will be rewarded with one clue based on its content.

PET prompt: The darkest place is under the candle

Whether you have taken a liking to or not to the newcomer police officer, Gale, you wish to know more about him and his investigation of the missing canines’ disappearances. Try sneaking around to see how the Malinois acts when he thinks nobody is looking. The rumors say he and his partner have been assigned a house on the outskirts of the town, perhaps taking a closer look inside might reveal some answers.

FARMSTEAD prompt: Despicable Me

Following the strange grass formations in the fields, you have found a peculiar-looking structure. It appears to be made of metal, with long antennae protruding from the top. Perhaps a closer investigation might reveal some answers as to what that thing may be and who it may belong to.

JUNKYARD prompt: Precautions must be taken

At night, when all the dogs had been sleeping safely hidden inside their dens, an ominous white van pulled up to the Junkyard. The canines who had seen it reported that it had no lights on and drove very slowly and thus most of the dogs were able to sleep right through its arrival. A few men dressed in black quickly unloaded some cargo from the back of the van and drove away, vanishing into the darkness. When the day arrived, dogs were greeted by a sight of mysterious crates standing between piles of trash.

Requirements:

- A fully shaded illustration with background OR a piece of literature, at least 800 words per character

Reward:

- One Canine Council point for each character that completes the task, which can be later used for raising your character's council rank.

Dear citizens of Canidale, after long months of waiting, we finally bring to you: a fully revamped map along with a list of the town’s main features.

The map is immensely detailed down to the very last part, going as far as to showcase every single settlement which could be, yes, your dog’s very own home! From now on, dogs with notoriety rank 2 (So-called) or higher are eligible for the “Home sweet home” reward, which allows them to claim one of the buildings on the map.

STAFF CHANGES: NEW HELPER HOUNDS AND ADMIN PROMOTIONS AT CANIDALE

Big thank you to everyone who submitted their application! It is heartwarming to see you care so much for the community, and it was a very hard choice to make. In the end, we decided to expand the team by one more person, bringing it up to three. Congratulations to CryptidRabies, RevelReggsson and kittykatt2232 for making it through the application process and getting appointed as the new helper hounds of Canidale.

It’s not the end of the good news, however, because we’d like to announce that after nearly a year of supporting Canidale with their hard work, Banshee-e, Oscuraz and rubynoot have earned their promotion to admins! It is thanks to their invaluable work that the group was able to live, develop, and expand during the past few months. They have already been outdoing themselves, devoting their time so that you could enjoy most of the roleplaying experience here at Canidale, so we believe this will be more of a cosmetic change, as you will now see them under the red-colored nicknames on our Discord server!
