noun
A type of a sound distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage beyond its maximum capability. Clipping produces strong harmonics in the range of high frequencies, which are likely to damage the tweeter. In general, the distortion associated with clipping is unwanted, however, clipping produced by analog equipment is often appreciated.
